CAA’s pensioners challenges withdrawal of incentives

Islamabad: An intra-court appeal (ICA) has been moved to Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday challenging the withdrawal of incentives from the pensioners of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

The ICA is moved by the more than 300 pensioners of the CAA against the verdict of single member bench of IHC, which had previously declared the decision of CAA board as legal.

The petitioners adopted the stance that medical facilities have been withdrawn from the parents and children of pensioners. They said that incentives including house grants and others were also withdrawn by the CAA.

The petition prayed the court to set aside the decision of CAA and single member bench of IHC.

Kashmore Police foils Kidnapping attempt, Rescue Resident of Sadikabad

Sukkur: In a successful operation, Kashmore Police rescued a resident of Sadiqabad, who was being lured to Kacha area under the pretext of a job offer.

The police action was prompted by technical intelligence, which helped them intercept the victim, Muhammad Shakeel, son of Ejaz Ahmed, before he could be kidnapped.

According to the Kashmore Police on Monday, Shakeel was being enticed to Kacha with promises of employment. However, thanks to timely technical information, Kashmore Police set up a blockade within the limits of Kashmore police station and rescued Shakeel.

The police safely handed over the rescued individual to his heirs.

Commissioner reviews upcoming events planning

Lahore: Lahore Divisional Commissioner Zaid-bin-Maqsood, chairing a coordination meeting here on Monday, reviewed the important initiatives for the city's development.

The district administration briefed the meeting on several key programs scheduled for February and March, including the Horse and Cattle Show, Champions Trophy, Regional Conference, and Faiz Festival.

The commissioner emphasized the importance of detailed micro-planning to ensure smooth execution of these events.

In addition, the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) provided an update on the cleanliness planning for both commercial and domestic areas in Lahore.

The meeting also focused on ongoing efforts by the Traffic Police and District Administration to remove illegal encroachments from key areas. Authorities confirmed that joint operations to clear encroachments from city intersections and major roads were continuing.

The commissioner reviewed the traffic flow measures, specifically road markings, zebra crossings, and signage, to ensure safe traffic movement during the events. Additionally, the Traffic Engineering and Planning Agency (TEPA) was directed to revisit the traffic U-turn on Jail Road to improve traffic management.

Collaboration between agencies was also a focal point of discussion, with the commissioner directing the Lahore Ring Road Authority and Traffic Police Lahore to work jointly on improving traffic discipline on service lanes. Further suggestions were discussed for better traffic flow in market areas during upcoming events.

Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza, Director General Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Tahir Farooq, DG Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Tahir Watoo, CTO Lahore Dr. Muhammad Athar Waheed participated.

The meeting underscored the importance of a unified approach to managing the city's logistics and ensuring the success of these major programs.

laborer killed, two injured

Faisalabad: A laborer was killed while two others sustained multiple injuries during a wall collapse incident in People's Colony police limits. Rescue 1122 Spokesman Zahid Latif said on Monday that the laborers were busy in demolishing an old building at Ehsan Yousuf Road when its wall collapsed. As a result, three laborers were trapped beneath the debris. On information, Rescue 1122 team reached the spot and dragged out the victims but Nawaz Sarwar, 45, died on the spot whereas Rescue 1122 shifted Bashir Ahmad to Allied Hospital-II due to critical condition besides providing first aid to third victim Liaqat as he sustained minor injuries.

SUPARCO’s Indigenous Electro-Optical Satellite (EO-1) to be launched on Jan 17

Islamabad: Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has announced the upcoming launch of Pakistan's Indigenous Electro-Optical (EO-1) Satellite from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre (JSLC), China, on January 17.

According to the SUPARCO, the launch of the indigenous EO-1 mission reflects SUPARCO's dedication and expertise in advancing Pakistan's technological capabilities in space science and innovation.

This indigenously developed satellite represents a significant achievement in Pakistan's space technology journey and is poised to enhance the country's ability to monitor and manage natural resources, predict and respond to natural disasters, support food security, and drive economic growth through informed decision-making and sustainable development.

The EO-1 satellite offers substantial benefits across various sectors in Pakistan. In agriculture, it will enable precision farming by monitoring crops, assessing irrigation needs, predicting yields, and supporting food security initiatives.

For urban development, the satellite will assist in tracking infrastructure growth, managing urban sprawl, and aiding city and regional planning efforts. In environmental monitoring and disaster management, it will provide timely updates on floods, landslides, earthquakes, deforestation, and land erosion.

Additionally, it will support extraction and conservation strategies for natural resources, including monitoring of minerals, oil and gas fields, glacier recession, and water resources.
