3 drug peddlers, 3 liquor suppliers arrested

Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Police on Monday arrested three drug peddlers, three liquor suppliers and two other accused for illegal LPG decanting from different areas.

According to a police spokesman, the Morgah held three drug peddlers with more than 4.5 kilograms of hashish. The arrested accused included Ikram, Imran and Tariq.

Similarly, the Waris Khan Police arrested three liquor suppliers namely Zahid, Khalil-ur-Rehman and Hamza Omar, and recovered 18 litres of liquor from them.

Likewise, the R A Bazaar Police nabbed two accused for illegally decanting of Liquefied Petroleum Gas and seized gas cylinders and refilling equipment. The accused were identified as Tariq and Saqib.

‘Dedicated lanes for cyclists & motorcyclists in Lahore’

Lahore: Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has decided to make dedicated lanes for cyclists and motorcyclists in the provincial capital to improve traffic flow. On the special directions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, the LDA has initially launched the pilot project on Ferozepur Road, Lahore. LDA DG Tahir Farooq visited the site and reviewed the project while LDA Chief Engineer Israr Saeed and the Project Director briefed him about the development works. The LDA is making biker lanes on the outer sides of both directions of Ferozepur Road. These lanes will be separated from main road by using curb stone and eco-friendly blue paint. In the first phase, a 4-kilometer-long lane is being built on both sides from Kalma Chowk to Lahore Bridge. LDA DG Tahir Farooq said the biker lane would be 12-feet wide and would ease the commute for citizens. The objective of promoting biker lanes was to improve traffic flow and reduce accidents, he added. Later, LDA DG Tahir Farooq visited Block B-3 in Gulb erg to review the ongoing sustainable development projects. The LDA Chief Engineer informed him about the rapid progress in Block B-3 of Gulberg. The LDA DG directed that the development work should continue without any interruption.

Tarar visits residence of late senior journalist Javed Shahzad, offers Fateha

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting, National Heritage and Culture Attaullah Tarar on Monday visited the residence of senior journalist Javed Shahzad to condole his death.

The minister expressed his heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the brother of the deceased, senior journalist Khurram Shehzad and other family members and recited Fateha for the soul of the late Javed Shahzad.

The minister said that Javed Shahzad was a hardworking and capable journalist who devoted most of his life to journalism.

The vacuum created in the field of journalism due to Javed Shehzad's death will never be filled, Attaullah Tarar said adding that the journalistic services of the deceased will always be remembered.

He said that he equally shared the grief of the bereaved family and Javed Shahzad's and his children will not be left alone.

The minister prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss with fortitude.

Prime Minister's Media Coordinator Badr Shahbaz Waraich was also present on the occasion.

Khairpur Police crack down on robbers, recover stolen cash

Sukkur: In a successful operation, Khairpur Police has recovered Rs. 485,000 in stolen cash and apprehended one of the suspects involved in an armed robbery.

According to Khairpur Police on Monday, the police action was taken under the guidance of SSP Khairpur Toheed Rehman Memon.

The robbery occurred on December 22, 2024, within the limits of Kot Diji police station, where the suspects, armed with weapons, snatched Rs. 485,000 from Lala Nadir Hussain. Utilizing information technology, the police team, led by SHO Kot Diji, Manshad Ali Kalhoro, tracked down and arrested one of the suspects, Faisal alias Bhawal Hajano.

The police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the remaining three suspects. The owner of the stolen cash, Lala Nadir Hussain, praised the police team's efforts, while SSP Khairpur commended the team's performance.

Minister visits UVAS Ravi Campus Pattoki

Lahore: Provincial Minister for Higher Education Rana Sikandar Hayat and MPA Mehmood Anwar paid a visit to the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Ravi Campus, Pattoki, and called on Vice Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Muhammad Younus (DLA.I, T.I) on Monday. Rana Sikandar Hayat visited various sections of Prof Dr Muhammad Akram Educational Complex, including library and auditorium. Visiting A-Block, the minister planted a sapling in front of Akram Complex while Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Younus, Dean Faculty of Animal Production and Technology Prof Dr Saima, Principle Officer Ravi Campus Prof Dr Arshad Javid, faculty members and administrative officer were also present. Addressing the audience, Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat appreciated progress of the UVAS through its quality of education and research in the country. The minister said in future he would manage E-buses for Ravi Campus students and would also provide better medical facilities by managing st aff and facilities at Ravi Campus university hospital, he added. He also ensured his full support and cooperation for the uplift of the UVAS and lauded VC Prof Dr Muhammad Younus leadership for providing quality education to students and services to communities.
