Lahore

Lahore: Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has started installing emergency panic buttons and surveillance cameras on pedestrian bridges in Lahore to enhance the safety of women and students on the directions of Punjab chief minister. PSCA spokesperson said here on Tuesday, in the first phase, emergency panic buttons had been installed on the overhead bridges of Lahore College for Women University and Kinnaird College.

The spokesperson said panic buttons and cameras would be installed on other important pedestrian bridges across Lahore in the second phase. Women and students facing harassment or any emergency situation on the bridges would be able to press the panic button to establish a direct connection with the Safe City control room, the spokesperson said. The control room would immediately assess the situation through live surveillance and dispatch the relevant police team for assistance, he added.

The installation of cameras and panic buttons would also enable live monitoring and more effective surveillance of the pedestrian bridges, the spokesperson said. The initiative would help provide immediate police assistance to women and students and prevent incidents of harassment through the effective use of modern technology, he added. He said other overhead bridges in Lahore would also be connected with the Safe City system in phases. The PSCA was continuing technology-based measures to provide a safe environment to all citizens, including women, he added.
