Quetta: Preparations for Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day have reached their peak in Quetta, where the city has been decorated with national flags, buntings, colorful lights, and illuminations. Alongside the festive atmosphere, extraordinary security arrangements have been put in place to ensure peaceful celebrations.
Major roads, government and private buildings, and key public places including Zarghoon Road, Balochistan Assembly, Balochistan High Court, Commissioner’s Office, Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Municipal Committee, Jinnah Road, Serena Chowk, Provincial Assembly Road, GPO Chowk, Mir Jaffar Khan Jamali Road, Chief Minister’s House, and Governor House have all been adorned with national flags and decorative lighting.
Special stalls have been set up across the city selling flags, buntings, badges, green-and-white clothing, caps, stickers, and other national items. Citizens, especially children and youth, are purchasing these in large numbers, creating a vibrant Independence Day atmosphere in markets and on busy streets. Shopkeepers report a sharp rise in demand, with parents buying patriotic attire and accessories for their children.
Quetta Police have deployed additional personnel at sensitive locations, government buildings, markets, and event venues. Strict monitoring and checking are underway at entry and exit points, major intersections, and public places. Senior police officials told media that a comprehensive security plan has been devised to ensure citizens’ safety, with surveillance of suspicious individuals and vehicles. Citizens have been urged to cooperate with security personnel and immediately report any suspicious activity.
Police officials emphasized that Independence Day is a celebration of joy, national unity, and patriotism, calling on citizens to participate responsibly while adhering to law and order.
Residents of Quetta expressed that Independence Day is not merely a celebration but a renewal of commitment to the sacrifices made for Pakistan’s creation, national solidarity, and love for the homeland. They said the day reminds everyone to contribute to the country’s security, development, prosperity, and stability.
Various government, political, social, and educational institutions are preparing flag-hoisting ceremonies, seminars, rallies, and other events. With national flags fluttering on buildings and streets, and slogans of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ echoing across the city, Quetta has been transformed into a vibrant symbol of national spirit ahead of August 14.
