Lahore: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Sunday sealed two food processing units, destroyed 7, 900 kilograms of adulterated spices and expired salt, and imposed a cumulative fine of Rs 2 million during a crackdown against food adulteration in Kot Abdul Malik.
According to spokesperson, PFA Director General Raja Mansoor Ahmed led the operation, during which authorities disposed of 5, 000 kilograms of expired salt, 2, 500 kilograms of adulterated red chilli powder and 400 kilograms of substandard turmeric powder recovered from the raided units.
He stated that one spices unit was sealed after laboratory tests declared samples of chilli and turmeric powder unfit for human consumption. Meanwhile, the salt processing unit was closed for operating without a valid license, workers’ medical certificates, and mandatory records, alongside packaging substandard salt in poor hygiene conditions where salt was stored uncovered on the floor with heavy insect infestation.
Warning that the consumption of adulterated and expired food products poses serious health risks, the DG maintained that inspection teams are continuing rigorous checks across the province to eliminate adulteration and ensure strict compliance with food safety regulations.
