Plantation along canal banks in Multan division to be revived

District

Burewala:Commissioner Multan Division Rana Amir Karim Khan has decided to revive plantation along the vacant stretches of canal banks across the division and has convened an emergency meeting of senior divisional officers of the Irrigation and Forest departments next week.

The decision was taken during a meeting with Deputy Convener Civil Society Network Burewala Chaudhry Asghar Ali Javed, who drew the commissioner’s attention to the declining number of trees along canal banks in Burewala and other areas of the division.

The commissioner expressed concern over the cutting of trees along canal banks and the decline in plantation due to various reasons, saying that the loss of greenery had left several canal stretches presenting a barren look.

He said a comprehensive plantation programme would be prepared to help reduce environmental pollution and restore greenery along canal banks. New trees would be planted on vacant stretches on an emergency basis, he added.

The commissioner directed the concerned departments to formulate an effective and practical plan for plantation and submit it for implementation.
