Punjab ensures uninterrupted medicine supply in teaching hospitals: Health Minister

Lahore: Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that the supply of medicines is being ensured in teaching hospitals across the province to facilitate patients and improve healthcare delivery.

Chairing a meeting at the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department on Thursday regarding the provision of medicines in the five largest teaching hospitals of Lahore, the minister said that for the first time in history, outstanding dues amounting to Rs22 billion for the last five years have been cleared for the convenience of patients.

Khawaja Salman Rafique stated that in line with the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, continuous efforts are underway to strengthen and improve the provincial health system. He emphasized that patients visiting government hospitals should not face any difficulty and that providing the best possible treatment in public sector hospitals remains the top priority of the government.

During the meeting, concerned officers briefed the minister on the current status of medicine availability and supply mechanisms in teaching hospitals.

Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department Azmat Mahmood Khan said that the medicine supply system in teaching hospitals is being continuously monitored to ensure transparency and uninterrupted availability.

The meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer, Additional Secretary Ameera Babar, Additional Secretary Anwar Bariar, Additional Secretary Ashfaq ur Rehman, Abdul Mateen Janjua and other senior officers. CEO Mayo Hospital Professor Haroon Hamid, Medical Superintendent Mayo Hospital Dr. Abdul Madabar Rehan, MS Services Hospital Dr. Arif Iftikhar, MS Jinnah Hospital Dr. Syed Mohsin Ali Shah, and MS General Hospital Dr. Faryad Hussain also participated in the meeting.
