Lahore: Secretary Health Punjab Azmat Mahmood has said that the Punjab government has taken exemplary and historic measures to provide better treatment facilities to cancer patients, with free treatment worth billions of rupees already provided to patients across the province.
In a statement issued on Friday, he said access to modern cancer treatment has been expanded throughout Punjab, while the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department is continuously working to provide the best possible healthcare facilities to the public.
He said that on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, five more cryoablation machines have been purchased and dispatched to different hospitals for installation.
Azmat Mahmood said that cryoablation technology was introduced for the first time in Punjab at Mayo Hospital Lahore in 2025. Since then, more than 70 patients suffering from stage-I cancer have been successfully treated free of cost through the facility.
He said two new cryoablation machines have been sent for installation at Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research Lahore, while one each has been dispatched to Nishtar Hospital Multan, Allied Hospital Faisalabad and Benazir Bhutto Hospital Rawalpindi.
The Secretary Health said the initiative would significantly expand advanced cancer treatment facilities beyond Lahore and provide patients across Punjab greater access to timely and effective treatment.
He said the government is committed to further strengthening the infrastructure of specialized healthcare facilities. The provision of modern machinery for cancer patients, he added, is an important step towards building a healthier Punjab and improving access to quality treatment.
