Rawalpindi: As part of the ongoing efforts to improve livestock breeding in the region, the Directorate of Livestock in Rawalpindi Division is providing high-quality bull semen at subsidised rates, making modern breeding technology accessible to small and medium-sized livestock farmers.
‘The initiative, under the supervision of Provincial Minister for Livestock Syed Ashiq Hussain Kermani and following the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, is aimed at improving cattle genetics and enhancing milk and meat production,’ a Livestock Directorate spokesman said on Wednesday.
Under the banner ‘Better Breed, Better Produce, Prosperous Farmers,’ the programme seeks to boost the genetic quality of livestock, with a particular focus on increasing the productivity of milk and meat.
The spokesman said the distribution of high-quality semen doses of Brahman breed bulls, as well as Friesian breed semen to enhance milk production, ‘is being carried out at subsidised prices to make the benefits of modern breeding accessible to a wider pool of farmers’.
Dr. Naveed Sahir Zaidi, Director of Livestock Rawalpindi, and Dr. Arshad Latif Arshad, Additional Director, are overseeing the distribution efforts, ensuring that the breeding initiatives are scientifically sound and aligned with modern livestock management practices.
The spokesman said the programme would not only improve livestock health and production but would also contribute to stabilising rural economies and improving the financial standing of farmers. ‘By using advanced breeding techniques under expert supervision, the department aims to significantly enhance the quality of livestock in Punjab.’
