Muzaffargarh: On the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Deputy Commissioner Usman Tahir Jappa, the district administration has intensified rescue and relief operations in flood-affected riverine areas of Jatoi tehsil amid the prevailing flood situation in the River Indus. According to a spokesperson for the district administration, residents and livestock are being shifted to safe locations, while immediate relief and medical assistance are being provided to the affected population. On the directives of the Deputy Commissioner, teams of the Irrigation Department, equipped with bulldozers and heavy machinery, are present at the affected Zamindara Bund and are working on an emergency basis to plug the breach.
All available resources are being utilized to prevent further spread of floodwater and strengthen the embankment at Lundi Patafi and Ram Pur Som. Teams of Rescue 1122, police, Irrigation Department, Livestock Department and other relevant agencies are present in the affected areas and are continuously monitoring the situation. The district administration is taking coordinated measures to ensure the safe evacuation of residents and make relief activities more effective.
A Clinic on Wheels has also been made operational in the affected areas of Jatoi tehsil, providing flood victims with medical check-ups, essential medicines and basic healthcare facilities. Relief camps established at government primary schools in Union Councils Jhagi Wala, Qaiser Ghazlani and Mochi Wala are also providing essential facilities to the affected people. Deputy Commissioner Usman Tahir Jappa directed all concerned departments to ensure uninterrupted relief activities in the affected areas, prioritize the protection of lives and property, and provide all possible facilities to flood victims at relief camps. In line with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s public-oriented vision, the district administration remains committed to standing by the affected people during this difficult time. The Flood Control Room at the DC Office is also functioning round the clock to monitor the flood situation and coordinate emergency response activities.
