Multan: Regional Police Officer (RPO) Usman Akram Gondal disposed of appeals filed by several police officers and personnel against departmental punishments, directing the force to strictly follow the principles of law, merit and justice.
During an orderly room hearing, the RPO reviewed the records of the appeals and heard the positions of the officials concerned before issuing decisions in accordance with departmental rules and regulations. He said the police accountability process must remain transparent and merit-based, adding that negligence and dereliction of duty would not be tolerated.
Among the major decisions, two appeals filed by Inspector Usman Parvez were disposed of with warnings in connection with punishments involving confiscation of service and censure. The censure appeal of Inspector Adnan Khurshid was rejected.
Of three appeals filed by Inspector Muhammad Aqeel, two were rejected while a warning was issued in the third. Inspector Yasir Nawaz received a warning in his appeal against forfeiture of six months’ service, while his second appeal against forfeiture of one year’s service was rejected.
One appeal of Inspector Rehmat Ali was rejected and a warning was issued in the other. The appeal of Sub-Inspector Tanveer Ahmed against forfeiture of one year’s service was also rejected.
Decisions were also issued on appeals filed by Sub-Inspectors Nawaz Ali, Ghulam Sabir, Abdul Rehman and Amir Nadeem, as well as Assistant Sub-Inspectors Munawar Sultan and Musawir Nawaz.
Appeals by dismissed Assistant Sub-Inspector Nooruddin and dismissed Constables Ghulam Rasool and Haider Sultan were rejected after they were found guilty. Sub-Inspectors Shamim Amjad and Muhammad Afzal were awarded forfeiture of one year’s service each following proceedings on their show-cause notices.
The appeal of Constable Owais Nawaz against forfeiture of one year’s service was rejected, while the appeal of retired Constable Imtiaz Hussain against the same punishment was accepted. The appeal of Lady Constable Amina Shaukat against forfeiture of six months’ service was rejected.
Two appeals of Traffic Warden Muhammad Afzal were also decided, with a warning issued in one censure-related case and the other appeal rejected. Lady Traffic Warden Shazia Bashir was issued a warning in her appeal against forfeiture of six months’ service.
