Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) has said its cleanliness operations across urban and rural areas under its jurisdiction are being carried out effectively, systematically and continuously, while awareness campaigns are also underway to promote public understanding of sanitation.
Responding to a recent private television programme highlighting garbage at certain points in the city, an RWMC spokesperson clarified that the locations shown did not fall within the company’s limit.
According to the clarification, the waste shown in Rahimabad was located in a cantonment area, while the dump highlighted at Pir Wadhai Mor came under the Capital Development Authority (CDA). “Cleanliness responsibilities in both areas rest with the relevant authorities, not the RWMC”, the spokesperson added.
The company said its jurisdiction was clearly defined and included the entire Murree Road from Faizabad to Murree Chowk, Rawal Road from Gay Chowk to Murree Road, and Pir Wadhai Road to Murree Road. ‘RWMC is ensuring cleanliness at all these locations, and there are no garbage piles anywhere within its domain,’ the statement said. It further noted that Rawal Road beyond Gay Chowk fell within the cantonment limits, while both sides of the IJP Road were under the CDA.
The RWMC stated that it was maintaining high standards of cleanliness in its designated areas and performing its duties in a regular and responsible manner. Citizens were urged to rely on authentic sources for information regarding sanitation matters and to cooperate with the RWMC in efforts to keep the city clean.
