Hyderabad: Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industry, President Muhammad Saleem Memon on Saturday expressed his reaction over the severe water crisis in the city for the past three days, unavailability of clean water and supply of dirty and smelly water in different areas, saying that citizens are deprived of water.
He said that during the past three days, citizens in different areas of the city kept yearning for every drop of water, along with domestic life, shops, markets, restaurants, offices, small businesses and industrial units were also severely affected.
He said that the city’s decades-old and dilapidated water lines, leakage, possible mixing with sewage lines, poor drainage and weak pumping systems were not only causing disruption in water supply but were also affecting the quality of water.
Saleem Memon said that the construction of new filtration plants and increasing the water production capacity by the Sindh government is a positive step, but just building new plants is not enough.
The HCSTSI President urged to ensure payment of salaries and pensions of the employees of the Hyderabad Water and Sewerage Corporation unpaid since 20 months to improve the performance of Sanitation staff.
The government would have to take practical and tough decisions after an impartial review of the performance of the institution.
He demanded that the Sindh government, the Chief Minister of Sindh, the Mayor of Hyderabad, the Commissionerd and the Hyderabad Water and Sewerage Corporation immediately issue an area-wise water supply schedule for all areas the city, make the actual production capacity and efficiency of water sources and filtration plants available to the public, conduct regular laboratory tests of water and publish the results.
