HYDERABAD:The management of Sindh Agriculture University will set up an experimental field for the expansion of wheat seed on the agricultural field of the Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI) in Sakrand.
According to university spokesman, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sindh Agricultural University and Central Cotton Research Institute Sakrand has been singed here on Tuesday for supply of certified wheat seeds to the farmers of Sindh.
The management of Sindh Agriculture University has started the work for the expansion of the seed of various wheat commodities to supply certified seeds to the farming community of the province at 30 acre experimental field of CCRI at Sakrand.
The MoU has been signed by the Director ORIC Dr. Tahmina Nagaraj and Director of Central Cotton Research Institute, A.D. Kalhoro.
Speaking at the occasion, the Vice Chancellor Dr. Fateh Marri said that the farmers of Sindh were facing problems of unavailability of certified seeds. Following inundation agriculture areas in different areas of the province as a result of flood water, the cultivation target of wheat could not be achieved and the problem of seed shortage may arise in the next season, he said.
He said agricultural academic and research institutes of Pakistan including Sindh have need to play a role in the agriculture development of the country,
He said that in the experimental field of Sindh, the experts of Agriculture University are carrying out the seed extension work in a modern way. The said field has also been visited by experts from different experts from the world including China and Turkia, he informed.
Among others, the Chairman of Plant Breeding and Genetics Dr. Shahnawaz Marri, Registrar Ghulam Mohiyuddin Qureshi, Director Planning and Development Dr. Muhammad Muthal Lund and Farm Officer Abdullah Keerio were also present on the occasion.
