SCCI President calls for offering special incentives to foreign investors

President of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), Fuad Ishaq, called for offering special incentives and facilities to foreign investors to promote foreign investment in the country.

During a meeting at the chamber’s house with the president of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), Nasir Awan, SCCI’s chief stated that a conducive environment should be provided to both local and foreign investors to attract maximum foreign investment in the country. The chamber’s president stressed the need for signing a ‘charter of economy, ‘ taking into account the prevailing economic situation.

Ijaz Khan Afridi, the vice president of the chamber, and senior journalist Aftab Ahmad, also known as Lala, were also present during the meeting.

The meeting agreed to make joint efforts to enhance bilateral trade between Pakistan and the United Kingdom. This includes the exchange of business delegations, launching joint ventures, implementing programs, and benefiting from each other’s experiences
for business expansion and the removal of obstacles in the way of mutual trade.

Fuad Ishaq mentioned that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) was a lucrative destination for both local and foreign investment, with ample opportunities available in natural resources such as mining, oil, gas, marble, and other potentials. He invited foreign investors to consider investing in these sectors in KP, initiate joint ventures and programs, and mutually benefit from exploring new investment avenues and each other’s experiences.

Nasir Awan stated that BCCI was taking proactive measures to facilitate the Pakistani business community and investors, aiming to improve the current bilateral trade volume between the two countries and lead Pakistan’s economy towards stability and sustainable growth.

Fuad Ishaq called upon the concerned authorities to take tangible steps to enhance the demand for Pakistani products in the UK and EU markets. The SCCI chief emphasized the need to leverage the benefits of the EU’s Generalized Scheme of Pref
erences+ (GSP+) status to further improve the country’s bilateral trade with EU nations. He urged both governments to take joint steps to facilitate the business community and further strengthen the bilateral trade volume.

It is noteworthy that the BCCI and SCCI had already signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at further improving bilateral trade and economic relations, as well as providing better facilities for the business communities of both countries through joint initiatives and programmes.
