Peshawar:The Wildlife Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday released a peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus), earlier confiscated at the Motorway Toll Plaza in Peshawar, into its natural habitat.
The rare wild bird was seized from a vehicle bearing registration number BSJ-444 while it was being illegally transported towards Karachi.
The falcon, measuring approximately 13 × 12.5, was found fit for release following a necessary examination and completion of official formalities, said Mrs. Manahil Wahab, DFO Wildlife Peshawar.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Manahil said that the Peshawar Wildlife Division had adopted a zero-tolerance policy against the illegal capture, possession and transportation of protected wildlife.
She said the department would ensure strict enforcement of the policy under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife and Biodiversity Act, 2015.
Other officials present on the occasion included Mrs. Roobina, DFO Wildlife Extension, and Aamir Ali, Range Officer Wildlife Peshawar.
