Multan: The long-dormant lake at Shah Shams Park is set to spring back to life after 15 years, with Commissioner Multan Aamir Karim Khan directing the Multan Horticulture Agency to make it accessible to citizens during the first week of September.
The commissioner visited Shah Shams Park to inspect the ongoing restoration work and reviewed progress on the project. He directed the authorities to complete all remaining works within the stipulated timeline, emphasizing that the lake should be fully operational by early September.
The lake had remained non-functional since 2011. Its restoration is now being carried out on a fast-track basis on the special directives of Commissioner Aamir Karim Khan, with the project aimed at reviving one of the city’s important recreational attractions.
The commissioner stressed that restoration of the lake must go hand in hand with comprehensive safety arrangements to ensure a secure, pleasant and quality recreational facility for citizens. He said Shah Shams Park, situated in the heart of the city, held significant importance as a public recreational space and that the revival of its lake would bring back its lost charm while providing families with an enhanced leisure facility.
During the visit, Commissioner Aamir Karim Khan also inspected the under-construction cafeteria at the park and directed the authorities to complete it during August so that visitors could benefit from improved facilities upon the reopening of the lake.
Managing Director Horticulture Authority Multan Syed Waseem Hassan briefed the commissioner on the progress of the lake restoration and other ongoing development works. He said the restoration was progressing rapidly and would be completed within the prescribed timeframe.
Syed Waseem Hassan said the Shah Shams Park would be equipped with improved recreational facilities to provide citizens with a better, safer and more attractive public space.
The revival of the lake is expected to significantly enhance the park’s recreational appeal and provide residents, particularly families, with a renewed destination for leisure and outdoor activities. Relevant officers were also present during the inspection.
