MULTAN:The anti-smog crackdown was vigorously underway throughout the division and the Environment department has sealed six brick kilns and industrial units and imposed over seven lac fine over smog.
The environment department teams led by Deputy Director Environment Maher Shamshad have made an inspection of 35 brick kilns and issued notices to two kilns, two cases were registered and four kilns were sealed. Rs seven lac fine was also imposed on brick kiln owners.
Water was released around four brick kilns in continuous violation of SOPs. Likewise, an inspection of 16 industrial units was made and notices were served to nine units, 5 cases registered, and two units sealed. Two cases were registered and a Rs 15000 fine was imposed for burning crop residues.
Inspection of 113 vehicles was made, 27 challenged, four impounded and a Rs 2,14,000 fine imposed. Maher Shamshad said that Commissioner Engineer Aamir Khattak has issued orders to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against elements that cause Environmental pollution and he himself checks anti-smog crackdown on a daily basis.
