Attock:The Attock food department has foiled different bids to smuggle 64 tonnes of flour and 43 tonnes of wheat from Punjab to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and seized as many as six trucks.

District Food Controller (DFC) Attock Shams Abbas while briefing newsmen here at Hassanabdal on Wednesday said the food department in collaboration with the district administration has increased surveillance on inter-province Hassanabdal-Haripur Hazara road, Burhan interchange on Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M-1) and foiled six different bids to smuggle wheat and flour.

‘The vehicles were found carrying the wheat and flour without the required permits or legal documents’, he said.’The six trucks and their consignments were taken into government custody’, he added.

He said the seized wheat and flour were subsequently shifted to government warehouses and would be made available to consumers at official rates.

Abbas said the department had adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards illegal transportation and smuggling of wheat and flour and that surveillance at entry and exit points, including the motorway, would be intensified.
