Karachi: Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) hosted a reception in honour of noted scholar and Sr. Aligarian from the United States of America, Dr Shaheer Khan, here at the University campus.
According to a press release, Dr Shaheer lives in America, where he is associated with various organizations and institutions to help and support students who are ambitious to get higher education in foreign countries.
Addressing the reception, Dr Shaheer said when Abraham Lincoln had initiated a campaign for getting rights for blacks in USA and he was fighting to set them free from the shackles of slavery, at the same time Sir Syed Ahmed Khan had started Aligarh Movement in the subcontinent to equip Muslims with modern education. This movement not only convinced Muslims to get a scientific education but also created political awareness among the people of foreign countries.
Elaborating further, he said, ‘The time has come to catch up with global phenomena and to put education as a top priority. We are guiding competent and deserving students, and supporting them to get higher education in the universities of America and Europe without any discrimination.
Dr Shaheer pointed out that a social media group has been formed, and it has more than 38,000 members worldwide.
Chancellor SSUET, and President Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association, Muhammad Akbar Ali Khan said that Technology is evolving at an unprecedented pace, and we find ourselves in a race against time to adapt. New advancements are launched daily, and we must ensure that our curriculum and facilities keep pace with these changes.
Chairperson of Zakir Ali Khan Foundation, Erum Akbar Ali Khan, said that Engr. Zakir Ali Khan received the first Sir Syed Ahmed Khan International Award for literature from Aligarh Muslim University for his work promoting the Aligarh Spirit and contributions to education and literature.
