Surge in dengue cases prompts health authorities to step up vector surveillance, legal action

District

Rawalpindi: A steady surge in dengue infections across Rawalpindi district has been reported. The local hospital screenings of 4,890 patients confirmed cases climbing to 33. The fresh data released by the health authorities revealed that the month of September has been crucial for the rise in cases.

The data indicates that field surveillance squads uncovered a massive larval burden across urban and rural belts, detecting 198,364 vector-breeding sites out of more than 5.14 million houses and 1.78 million outdoor spots inspected. High larva density metrics prompted heightened alerts across 25 union councils where Breteau Index levels crossed the critical threshold of 10, with heavy infestation concentrations reported in union councils CTR-2, CTR-7, Ratta Amral, CTR-16, Dhoke Naju, Dhoke Babu Irfan, Ganj Mandi, Waris Khan and CTR-10. September alone accounted for 27 confirmed admissions from vulnerable hotspots including Asghar Mall Scheme, Dhama Syedan, Pindora, Morgah, and Mandra.

The health authorities escalated regulatory enforcement against commercial and domestic standard operating procedure (SOP) violations, registering 2,717 FIRs, sealing 678 premises, issuing 2,239 legal challans and imposing fines amounting to 2.83 million rupees against property owners allowing stagnant water accumulation.
