Karachi: Karachi police have arrested two alleged street criminals, including one injured suspect, during a successful operation against a motorcycle lifting and mobile phone snatching gang in the Model Colony area.
Weapons, drugs, motorcycles, and multiple mobile phones were also recovered.
According to a spokesperson for Korangi Police on Monday, personnel from Model Colony police station were on routine patrol near Model Colony Graveyard Road when they spotted suspects riding four motorcycles. When police signaled them to stop, the suspects opened indiscriminate fire on the police party.
Police retaliated, and after an exchange of fire, two suspects were arrested, one of them injured. The arrested suspects were identified as Simson, who sustained injuries during the encounter, and Abdul Rehman, who was arrested without injury.
During a search, police recovered four motorcycles two 125cc and two 70cc along with four pistols, including two 9mm and two 30-bore weapons. Authorities also seized 1,800 grams of hashish, 13 mobile phones of different brands, and two tablet phones from the suspects.
Initial investigations revealed that the arrested men are part of an organised street criminal gang involved in motorcycle lifting, mobile phone snatching, and drug supply. The gang was active in various areas falling under different police stations of Korangi district.
Police said two other suspects managed to escape during the encounter. Their identities have been confirmed, and raids are underway at multiple locations to arrest them.
Further investigations revealed that injured suspect Simson has a prior criminal record, with one case registered at Model Colony police station and two cases at Khokhrapar police station. Authorities are also verifying the criminal records of the remaining suspects.
The injured suspect was shifted to hospital for medical treatment, while further investigation is ongoing.
