Peshawar: Employees of the University of Peshawar on Friday raised serious concerns over the institution’s worsening financial and administrative situation, demanding that the university’s affairs be handed over to the federal government.
The demand was made during a meeting of the Joint Action Committee held here at the university, which was attended by faculty members, officers, Class III and IV employees, and sanitation staff.
The participants expressed strong resentment over the provincial government’s failure to ensure the timely payment of salaries.
They informed the meeting that salaries had not been paid to employees even up to January 10, adding to the financial distress faced by staff and their families.
Employees stated that delays in salary payments have persisted for the past two years, creating uncertainty and hardship.
According to the meeting’s resolution, the ongoing financial crisis is severely affecting both employees and their dependents.
The participants passed a resolution against the provincial government and emphasized that, in the best interest of the university and the people of the province, the University of Peshawar should be placed under federal financial and administrative control.
The Joint Action Committee warned that if timely payment of salaries and pensions is not ensured, employees will be left with no option but to launch a strong protest.
It was further announced that in case the issue remains unresolved, academic and administrative activities would be boycotted.
The committee made it clear that any consequences arising from such a boycott would be the responsibility of the university administration and the provincial government.
