DG Environment Imran Hamid Sheikh has issued orders to the Airports Administration, in which it has been said that packing of bags with plastic wrapping sheets has been prohibited. He said packing of bags is generating a lot of plastic waste, adding moreover, plastic packaging has been banned at airports around the world.
Hamid Sheikh said that the action of Punjab Environment Protection Department against plastic bags is gaining strength throughout Punjab, special squads conducted 29757 inspections and confiscated 12849 kg of plastic bags which were less than 75 microns.
On the other hand, according to the spokesman of the Environment Protection Department of Punjab, during the last one month, the special teams of the Environment Protection Department conducted 29757 raids, of which 2195 raids were conducted in the provincial capital and 1049 kg
of plastic bags were seized.
Likewise, special squads conducted 29,757 inspections and seized 12,849 kg plastic bags that were less than 75 microns.
It is worth mentioning that same instructions have been issued to stop the use of plastic packaging for the Islamabad airport.
