Peshawar:The Vehicle Emission Testing Station (VETS) Peshawar tested 10,489 vehicles for fitness and emissions during September, with 2,050 vehicles failing to meet the prescribed environmental and technical standards.
According to the monthly performance report issued by VETS Peshawar, 8,449 vehicles successfully passed the required fitness and emission tests, while action was initiated against the vehicles that failed the tests.
The Transport Department has also launched an awareness campaign to help control smog and toxic vehicular emissions and educate vehicle owners about the health and environmental impacts of pollution.
Under the campaign, VETS Peshawar is conducting vehicle inspections while informing citizens and vehicle owners about proper vehicle maintenance and the importance of meeting prescribed environmental and technical standards.
The Transport Department has urged vehicle owners to ensure timely repair and fitness testing of vehicles emitting excessive smoke.
It said the vehicle inspection process would be further strengthened as part of efforts to reduce environmental pollution and promote a cleaner and safer environment.
