Islamabad: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI)-based weekly inflation increased by 0.21 percent during the week ended on October 01, 2026, for the combined consumption group, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported here on Friday.
According to PBS data, the SPI for the week under review rose to 370.46 points from 369.69 points recorded in the previous week. On a year-on-year basis, the SPI increased by 11.53 percent.
The weekly SPI, with base year 2015-16=100, covers 17 urban centres and 51 essential items for all expenditure groups.
The SPI for the lowest consumption group (up to Rs 17,732) increased by 0.19 percent to 354.73 points from 354.06.
Likewise, the SPI for consumption groups of Rs 17,733-22,888, Rs 22,889-29,517, Rs 29,518-44,175 and above Rs 44,175 increased by 0.20 percent, 0.21 percent, 0.22 percent and 0.21 percent respectively.
During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 20 items (39.21 percent) increased, 10 items (19.61 percent) decreased, while 21 items (41.18 percent) remained unchanged.
On a week-on-week basis, the items that witnessed an increase in prices included chicken, which rose by 7.25 percent, followed by garlic (1.85%), pulse gram (1.30%), LPG (1.17%), eggs (0.72%), rice irri-6/9 (0.55%), onions (0.39%), washing soap (0.33%), wheat flour (0.29%), long cloth (0.19%) and lawn printed (0.19%).
On the other hand, the prices of diesel decreased by 3.43%, bananas (1.52%), sugar (1.05%), potatoes (0.96%), petrol (0.65%), pulse moong (0.63%), tomatoes (0.51%), pulse masoor (0.42%), gur (0.12%) and powdered milk (0.10%).
On a year-on-year basis, major increases were observed in the prices of Onions (114.20%), LPG (66.59%), electricity charges for q1 (58.59%), diesel (44.50%), wheat flour (32.65%), chilies powder (15.55%), mutton (15.07%), chicken (13.60%), beef (12.90%), bread plain (8.96%) and milk fresh (8.10%).
On the other hand, decrease was observed in the prices of tomatoes (45.52%), potatoes (39.54%), sugar (21.95%), eggs (17.47%), salt powder (14.81%), pulse masoor (10.92%), pulse gram (9.90%) and pulse moong (8.20%).
