Peshawar Police on Thursday exhumed the body of a married woman allegedly killed in the name of honour in Khazana area here and got it medically examined to determine the cause and circumstances of her death.
The exhumation was conducted in the presence of a local magistrate, following which a team of Khyber Medical College performed the post-mortem examination. Samples collected during the examination were sent for forensic analysis.
The woman was reburied after completion of the post-mortem, police said.
SHO Khazana said that investigators had recorded statements of relevant people and collected important evidence as part of the probe into the woman’s death.
He said that police were examining the incident from different angles and would take further legal action after receiving the post-mortem and forensic reports.
Police said that information had surfaced suggesting that the woman was allegedly killed by her father and brother, but the claim was being investigated and had not yet been established.
Investigators were also looking into reports that a funeral prayer was offered at a hujra before the woman was quietly buried.
Police said that the cause and circumstances of the death would be determined after examining the forensic evidence, post-mortem findings and statements recorded during the investigation.
