Hyderabad: Deputy Commissioner Tharparkar Abdul Haleem Jagirani on Wednesday said that the purpose of holding open courts (Khuli Kacheris) in different talukas of the district is to listen to public complaints at their doorstep and ensure their prompt resolution, as the district’s vast geographical area often makes it difficult for residents to access government offices.

Addressing an open court in Nagarparkar, the Deputy Commissioner said that assistant commissioners and all district officers should step out of their offices, maintain close contact with the public and resolve their problems on a priority basis.

According to a handout, he assured the participants that all issues raised during the open court would be addressed promptly and warned that no one would be allowed to take the law into their own hands.

The deputy commissioner directed the assistant commissioner to immediately register cases and arrest those found illegally occupying or cultivating government grazing land (Gauchar). He also instructed the relevant authorities to shift the livestock holding area outside town without delay.

He further ordered that any illegally occupied land belonging to poor residents should be restored through legal procedures. He also directed the authorities to launch immediate operations against encroachments on public roads, pathways and government land.

Jagirani also directed revenue officials to ensure transparency in land mutation cases and display the official schedule of fees including those for issuing sale certificates at prominent places in their offices. He warned that strict action would be taken against anyone involved in illegal fee collection or tampering with official records.

On the occasion, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tharparkar Arif Aziz said that the police were actively working to eliminate narcotics and other crimes in the district. He urged responsible citizens to report any incidents of drug sale or use, assuring that immediate legal action would be taken against the accused.

During the open court, residents presented verbal and written complaints regarding the transfer of inheritance records, excessive fees for sale certificates, illegal occupation of grazing and private lands by influential individuals, healthcare, education, provision of safe drinking water, illegal tree cutting and other civic issues. Most of the complaints were resolved on the spot.

DHO Dr. Lekhraj Sarangani, assistant commissioner Nagarparkar Iram Narejo, assistant commissioner Mithi/ADC-II Umair Ashraf, officials of various government departments and a large number of local residents attended the open court.

Attock: A 29-year-old man was killed after being struck by the Jaffar Express near Sanjwal area in the district, the Rescue 1122 sources said on Wednesday.

The body had been identified as Muhammad Ibrahim, a resident of Mohalla Qaim Shah Mirza, died at the spot after being hit by the Peshawar-bound train, the Rescue 1122 sources added.

A Rescue 1122 ambulance was dispatched to the site, and emergency personnel shifted the body to the District Headquarters Hospital, Attock after completing the necessary legal formalities.

Peshawar: Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Central General Secretary Ahmad Nawaz Khan Jadun on Wednesday criticised the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly’s law granting lifetime benefits to members of the provincial assembly, describing it as unjust to the people.

In a video statement, he said the legislation had been enacted at a time when the people of the province were facing inflation, unemployment, insecurity, inadequate basic services and economic hardships.

Ahmad Nawaz Khan Jadun said that despite being in power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the past 13 years, the ruling party had failed to provide the level of development, infrastructure, healthcare and education expected by the public.

He said many parts of the province still lacked proper roads, access to clean drinking water, healthcare facilities and other essential public services.

The QWP leader alleged that instead of focusing on resolving public issues, the government and lawmakers were prioritising an increase in their own privileges.

He referred to previous increases in salaries and allowances and said the latest move to provide lifetime benefits and blue passports had further increased public concern.

He said taxpayers’ money should be utilised for public welfare, creating employment opportunities, improving education and healthcare, and strengthening infrastructure rather than extending lifelong privileges to elected representatives.

Ahmad Nawaz Khan Jadun urged the provincial government to review the legislation, set its priorities in line with public needs and focus on addressing the problems faced by the people.

He said the Qaumi Watan Party would continue to oppose any measure that it believed was against the public interest and would raise its voice at every democratic and constitutional forum for the protection of people’s rights.
