Muzaffargarh: Police arrested a robber in injured condition while two others managed to escape following an exchange of fire during a snap checking operation in the jurisdiction of Khangarh police station here on Monday.
According to police spokesperson, the incident took place at Ditton Wali in the limits of Mondka Police Post, where the post in-charge and other policemen were conducting checking when they signalled three men riding a motorcycle without a registration number to stop.
The suspects allegedly opened fire at the police party and attempted to flee. Police chased the suspects, who lost control of their motorcycle due to high speed and fell into a minor canal along with the motorcycle.
During the operation, police arrested one of the suspects, identified as Irfan alias Daga, in an injured condition, while his two accomplices escaped under the cover of darkness.
Police said Irfan was a hardened criminal and was wanted to police in 11 serious cases registered at different police stations.
Police launched a search operation in the area to apprehend the two fleeing suspects, while further investigation is underway, police officials added.
