Hyderabad: The Government College University (GCU) Hyderabad has successfully conducted the first-ever centralized written examination in the university’s history for the recruitment of Lecturers (BPS-17), ensuring transparency, merit and administrative autonomy.

Vacancies for Lecturers (BPS-17) were advertised in various academic disciplines including Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering, Computer Science, Commerce, Humanities and Social Sciences to further improve the teaching standards of the university’s constituent college.

The statement said the recruitment drive received an overwhelming response from candidates across Sindh, with 1,434 eligible applicants submitting applications. Written examinations for all disciplines were conducted simultaneously.

The Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Moazzam Ali Khan has said the recruitment process was being conducted transparently and strictly on merit in accordance with the prescribed policy.

Sukkur: Prominent personalities of Sukkur, Aijaz Memon, Junaid Memon Fazal, Muhammad Rahujo, M. Khoso, Shahid Bhutto and others visited the office of Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) and held a meeting with PML-F Provincial Leader Advocate Syed Shafqat Ali Shah.

During the meeting, matters pertaining to the Economic and Social Issues, current political situation in Sukkur district, and public welfare issues came under discussion.

The notables apprised the provincial leader of the problems faced by the people of Sindh Specially Sukkur and discussed ways to strengthen the party at the grassroots level.

Advocate Syed Shafqat Ali Shah welcomed the guests and said that PML-F, under its leadership is actively working for democracy, provincial rights, and public service.

He further stated that the party leadership is in close contact with workers and notables across the province to address public issues on a priority basis.

The meeting concluded in a cordial atmosphere, with both sides reaffirming their resolve to work together for the betterment of the people.

Kohat: Authorities in Kohat have removed six illegal water connections in the Kagazai area as part of efforts to improve access to safe drinking water and ensure a fair distribution of supply to residents.

The action followed complaints raised by residents during the recent anti-polio campaign, when they informed Additional Assistant Commissioner-II Arooba Iftikhar about persistent shortages of drinking water on Thursday. The official assured the community that prompt measures would be taken to address the issue.

Acting on the directives, the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department’s Sub-Divisional Officer, accompanied by his team, conducted an operation at the Mangli Ghunday Drinking Water Supply Scheme, disconnecting six unauthorized connections from the rising main pipeline.

Officials said the operation was aimed at preventing water theft and wastage while ensuring an uninterrupted and equitable supply of drinking water to legitimate consumers. They added that similar actions would continue to safeguard public resources and improve essential services across the district.

Bahawalpur: At least seven passengers suffered injuries after their coach skidded off road and overturned in an agriculture field due to negligence of the driver in Pakki Pul area of Ahmadpur East.

According to the rescue staff, a non-AC passenger bus was traveling from Multan to its destination when the driver lost control of the vehicle after drinking a cold beverage while driving. ‘The bus overturned, crossed the divider, and veered onto the opposite side of the road before coming to rest in nearby fields,’ they said.

They further said that the bus had a seating capacity of 72 passengers, with 25 passengers on board at the time of the accident, adding that seven passengers sustained injuries. Fortunately, all injuries were reported to be non-life-threatening.

Rescue teams provided first aid to the injured before shifting them to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital Ahmedpur East for further medical treatment. Local police also reached the scene and started investigating the incident. Further probe was in process.

Havelian: Construction work on the alternate road at the Havelian Ayub Bridge site is progressing at a fast pace to ensure uninterrupted traffic during the bridge’s reconstruction, which is being carried out with a Rs1 billion grant approved by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Former Federal Minister and General Secretary of Pakistan Muslim League (N), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murtaza Javed Abbasi, visited the project site to review the pace of work.

The alternate route is being developed to facilitate traffic while reconstruction of the Havelian Ayub Bridge continues. The bridge was damaged during last year’s monsoon rains, disrupting transportation in the area.

According to details, Murtaza Javed Abbasi secured the special grant from the Prime Minister for the reconstruction of the bridge.

Speaking during the visit, Abbasi said public service would remain his foremost priority. He directed that the alternate road must remain fully operational until the reconstruction of the Ayub Bridge is completed, adding that it is the responsibility of the contractor concerned to ensure the road is properly maintained for uninterrupted traffic flow.

Officials of the National Highway Authority (NHA) accompanied the former federal minister during the visit. Several local leaders and community representatives, including Khalid Parvez Awan, President of All Trade Khokhar Maira Nasir Swati, trader leader Naseer Ahmed Abbasi of Havelian, Abu Bakar Mustafa Abbasi, Khawaja Fasih-ur-Rehman, Zarnish Khan Langra, Mufti Adil, Sajid Awan, and other local elders, were also present.

Shangla: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shangla, Muhammad Abdullah Shah and District Police Officer (DPO), Ikramullah on Thursday visited Alpuri Press Club and met with office bearers of the club.

They discussed overall law and order situation, performance of administration and police, developmental projects and problems of people.

They highlighted the role of media and apprised them about the challenges faced by journalist while performing duties.

They urged media persons to realize their responsibilities and process news after confirming authenticity and reliability of sources.

They also stressed to develop a liaison among district administration, police and media in greater interest of people and supremacy of law.
