Sukkur: An important meeting of the District Polio Eradication Committee, chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sukkur and Committee Chairman Nadir Shahzad Khan, was held at the DC Office committee room to review arrangements for the upcoming IPV booster dose campaign.

It was decided in the meeting that the Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV) booster dose campaign will be conducted from August 6 to August 13 next month. The campaign will target 9 union councils in the Kacha areas of the district, where children from birth to 10 years of age will be administered the booster dose.

The meeting was attended by DHO Sukkur Dr. Ali Gul Shah, Additional Deputy Commissioner Tanveer Ahmed Khattak, AC New Sukkur Bushra Mansoor, AC Sukkur City Sarah Faraz, AC Rohri Ghulam Murtaza, AC Pano Aqil Urwat-ul-Wusqa, Dr. Waqar Ahmed, Dr. Tanveer Abbasi, along with officials from Health, Police, Education, Municipal, Information and other relevant departments, as well as representatives of social organizations.

Committee Focal Person Dr. Waqar Ahmed briefed the meeting that this booster dose campaign is an additional initiative, different from routine polio drives, and will be held for the first time in this manner. He clarified that under the routine campaign, children are given OPV drops, whereas the IPV booster dose will be administered through needle free jet injectors, which are completely safe. The solution is easily absorbed into skin cells and enters the body without causing any pain to children. He added that the IPV booster dose is highly effective.

Dr Waqar further informed that environmental samples for polio across Sindh, including Sukkur, tested negative until June this year, which is a welcome development and a sign of success. He said this booster campaign is a key step to sustain that success. He also briefed participants on the training of campaign teams, the selection process of team members, and other Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Speaking on the occasion, DC Nadir Shahzad Khan directed health officials to give utmost importance to the pre campaign training phase. He instructed that staff required for the campaign be selected strictly on merit through interviews. He also said that relevant Assistant Commissioners should be taken on board during all phases and training processes.

The DC said the negative results of environmental samples in Sukkur and across Sindh are encouraging news, and the tireless efforts of all polio workers deserve appreciation. He added that the booster dose is being administered to maintain this momentum of success. He noted that the campaign has already been successfully launched in Karachi division, and from next month it will be rolled out simultaneously in Sukkur, Larkana and Shaheed Benazirabad divisions.

The meeting was also informed that following the August IPV booster campaign, the routine anti-polio campaign in Sukkur district and division will be held during September October.

Muzaffargarh: A girl died after the wall of her mud house collapsed on her in Thatha Siyalan Pull on Friday,rescue officials said.

According to a spokesperson,the victim,Hasseba Bibi(19) was inside the house when the wall suddenly caved in, trapping her under the rubble.

Rescuers pulled the girl from the debris and shifted her to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital,where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.

According to local sources,the girl’s father,a daily-wage labourer had been unable to repair the dilapidated house due to financial hardship.

Residents said the structure had long been in a poor condition before the tragic incident.

Kohat: In the early hours of Friday, a joint intelligence-based operation (IBO) was conducted by Karak and Kohat police at Khattak Dam, located on the Karak-Kohat border, following confirmed reports of terrorist presence in the area.

According to police sources, terrorists opened fire on the raiding party, prompting a swift and effective retaliatory response. During the intense exchange of fire, four terrorists belonging to the Zahid group were killed.

The slain militants were reportedly involved in multiple attacks on law enforcement officials, including the martyrdom of SHO Banda Umar Nawaz in Karak and Inspector Tahir Nawaz in Kohat in 2025, as well as DSP Asad Mahmood and Sub-Inspector Anar Gul in 2026, among other police personnel.

Following the operation, police cordoned off the area and launched a search to trace any remaining elements. The identities and criminal records of the deceased terrorists are being verified.

Upon receiving information about the incident, DPO Karak and SP Headquarters Kohat, Ihsan Shah, reached the site and supervised the ongoing search operation.

Police officials reiterated their resolve to eliminate terrorism and ensure lasting peace in the region, affirming that operations against miscreants would continue with full force.

Gujrat: District Police Officer (DPO) Akhtar Farooq chaired a crime review meeting with the DSPs and SHOs of Lalamusa, Kharian and Sara e Alamgir circles to review the law and order situation and police performance.

According to a police spokesperson, the meeting reviewed the overall performance of the circles, the crime situation, progress on cases under investigation, action against proclaimed offenders and habitual criminals, and the disposal of pending cases.

The DPO directed the officers to ensure timely prevention of serious crimes, arrest of proclaimed offenders and other criminals, merit-based investigation, and prompt disposal of cases to provide speedy justice to the public.

He also instructed the officers to further strengthen patrolling, enhance policing, and utilise all available resources to curb crime and ensure the protection of the lives and property of citizens.

Chiniot: District Police Officer (DPO) Chiniot Dr. Naveed Atif organized an open court at Jamia Masjid Farooq Azam, Chiniot, on the occasion of Jumma Mubarak, in the line with the vision of Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

According to reporter correspondent, the DPO listened to the problems of the citizens and assured them of resolution, he directed the concerned officers to ensure redressal and instructed the Complaint Cell to follow up on the requests and submit a report.

The DPO briefed participants on various Punjab Police services and informed citizens about new traffic rules, directing them to ensure implementation. Addressing the gathering, he said holding an open court in the mosque is the Sunnah of Hazrat Muhammad ?, aimed at listening to people’s problems directly and promoting community policing.

He urged citizens to report social and moral evils as well as criminal elements, adding that their complaints will be noted by police and redressal will be ensured. The DPO emphasized that the safety of people’s lives and property and the establishment of law and order remain the top priority.

He added that all resources are being utilized to improve public service delivery. “I listen to the problems of the people during the open court in my office every day at 12 noon. Citizens should come to me without hesitation,” Dr. Naveed Atif said.
