Rawalpindi: Deputy Commissioner Murree Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi on Thursday conducted a surprise visit to Basic Health Unit (BHU) Numbal to review the provision of healthcare facilities. The visit aimed to assess availability of medicines, staff attendance, cleanliness arrangements and overall patient care at the facility.

During the inspection, the deputy commissioner reviewed various sections of the BHU, including the outpatient department (OPD), pharmacy and emergency ward. He examined the quality of medical treatment and checked stock records of life-saving and essential medicines.

He directed the hospital administration to ensure uninterrupted availability of all necessary medicines, emphasising that no patient should be compelled to purchase medicines from outside.

Agha Zaheer said thst provision of quality and timely healthcare services at public hospitals remained a top priority of the Punjab government.

He also checked attendance registers of medical and paramedical staff, directing them to strictly observe duty timings and demonstrate professionalism, compassion and courteous behaviour towards patients.

The deputy commissioner reviewed cleanliness arrangements under the ‘Suthra Punjab’ programme and directed further improvement, noting that a clean hospital environment was essential for early recovery of patients and prevention of infections.

He instructed the administration to maintain high standards of sanitation on a daily basis, ensure proper disposal of medical waste in accordance with prescribed rules, and strictly implement hygiene protocols across all departments.

The deputy commissioner reaffirmed that the performance of all public health facilities in Murree district would be monitored regularly and that no negligence in the provision of free, timely and quality healthcare services would be tolerated.

Chiniot: District Press Club Registered Chiniot President Shahid Mahmood Chaudhry on Saturday said journalism serves as the fourth pillar of society, stressing that a free, responsible and ethical media is vital for strengthening democracy, protecting public interests and promoting social development.

He said the primary role of journalism is to bring facts to light, amplify the voices of the oppressed and hold those in positions of power accountable. Responsible journalism, he added, plays a significant role in the intellectual and moral development of society and must remain committed to truth, fairness and the public interest.

Shahid Mahmood Chaudhry emphasized that the profession is governed by established ethical principles, particularly respect for individual privacy and human dignity. He said journalism should never be used to intrude into people’s private lives, damage reputations or pursue sensationalism for ratings or personal gain, describing yellow journalism and character assassination as contrary to professional ethics.

He urged journalists to focus on constructive criticism, fact-based reporting and issues of public importance while safeguarding human rights, personal dignity and the sanctity of private life. A healthy and progressive society, he said, depends on journalists who uphold professional ethics and use their platforms to inform and reform rather than to defame.

Peshawar: Additional Secretary Administration Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Forest Department, Habib-ul-Hasan Gilani on Saturday visited the Dir Kohistan Forest Division in Sharingal to review ongoing efforts to promote forest conservation, sustainable resource management and prevent illegal logging and timber smuggling.

During the visit, he was briefed on initiatives for forest protection, restoration, afforestation, sustainable management of natural resources, promotion of biodiversity and measures to curb illegal tree felling and timber trafficking.

The Additional Secretary was informed that the department is actively safeguarding natural forests through effective law enforcement, modern management practices and active participation of local communities.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to environmental conservation, the Additional Secretary stated that forests are a national asset and that any negligence in their protection would not be tolerated.

He also inspected the Sharingal tube nursery and bare-root nursery where he reviewed the successful cultivation of indigenous and suitable plant species. He appreciated the high standards maintained at the nurseries, the healthy growth of saplings and the preparations being made for upcoming plantation campaigns.

He emphasized that a strong nursery system and coordinated administrative measures are essential for building a greener, safer and more sustainable KP.

Multan: Motorway Police foiled an attempt to smuggle wheat worth millions of rupees near Uch Sharif on the M5 motorway.

According to Motorway Police Central Region spokesman Syed Imran Ahmed, police recovered 42.3 tonnes of wheat from a suspicious trailer.

The seized wheat was valued at approximately Rs 4.2 million, he said.

The truck was transporting the wheat from Punjab to Ghotki without a valid permit, the spokesman added.

Motorway Police handed over the trailer, wheat and driver to the Food Department for further action.

The Food Department has initiated the process of registering a case for legal action.

Hyderabad: On the directives of Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad Zain-ul-Aabdin Memon, field operations against overpricing, illegal sell, and violations of government regulations continued across the district under the supervision of the Assistant Commissioners.

Assistant Commissioner Qasimabad conducted price checking in various markets, inspecting five outlets.

During the operation, fines were imposed on two shopkeepers for selling essential commodities above the government-notified rates.

The Assistant Commissioner also carried out a raid against the sale of non-duty-paid cigarettes, during which 196 packets of illegal cigarettes were confiscated.

Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner Taluka Hyderabad Rural inspected an LPG outlet to verify compliance with government-notified LPG prices and prescribed safety SOPs. The shop owner was directed to strictly follow the official rates and ensure full compliance with safety regulations.

The Assistant Commissioner rural also visited MANN Atta Chakki and ANAAJ Atta Chakki at Tando Hyder to inspect flour prices, stock availability, and sales. The flour rates were found to be in accordance with the government-notified policy.

Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad reiterated that strict monitoring and enforcement operations would continue across the district to ensure price stability, protect consumers’ rights, and take legal action against all violations of government regulations.

Faisalabad: On the directions of Commissioner Faisalabad and Chairperson of the Management Committee, Musarrat Jabeen, Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) has conducted interviews for additional applicants seeking membership of FDA City Sports Complex during a meeting of the Sports Complex Management Committee.

Director General (DG) FDA Muhammad Asif Chaudhary, Additional Commissioner (Coordination) Syed Tanveer Murtaza and other members of the Management Committee thoroughly reviewed the applications, eligibility criteria, and relevant credentials of the candidates.

Following the evaluation, the membership was approved for all 33 male and female applicants. With this approval, the total number of members of FDA City Sports Complex has increased to 436.

Congratulating the newly admitted members, Director General FDA Muhammad Asif Chaudhary said that FDA City Sports Complex is providing modern sports and recreational facilities of international standards to promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage positive social activities.

He said that sports not only contribute to physical and mental well-being but also foster discipline, teamwork, mutual respect and a strong sense of national spirit.

He informed the participants that Sports Complex offers state-of-the-art facilities for both men and women, including modern swimming pools, a gymnasium, badminton, lawn tennis, squash, basketball, table tennis, padel tennis and other indoor sports.
