Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Public Relations, Shafi Jan Sunday stated that provincial government was taking practical measures to maintain law and order, eradicate terrorism, and modernize policing system.

As part of these efforts, provincial government has increased police budget to Rs191 billion, with Rs12 billion specifically allocated to strengthen police force and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in security-challenged districts.

Furthermore, Rs4 billion has been set aside for infrastructure improvement and capacity building of police and CTD in merged districts.

Additionally, one billion rupees has been allocated for establishing CTD Regional Headquarters in Peshawar and expanding its network to other districts.

Minister Shafi Jan concluded by saying that budget also includes dedicated funds for constructing more police stations and checkpoints across province to ensure efficient and timely police services for public.

Bahawalpur: A private airline, South Air, will launch its inaugural flight from Bahawalpur on July 16, marking the resumption of commercial flight operations at Bahawalpur Airport.

Official sources confirmed that the airport is set to resume operations with South Air commencing its scheduled service. The airline has also announced the flight schedule and fares for the new route.

According to the schedule, the inaugural flight will depart Karachi at 7: 30 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, and arrive at Bahawalpur Airport at 9: 20 a.m. The one-way fare from Karachi to Bahawalpur has been fixed at Rs20,324.

The aircraft will then depart Bahawalpur at 9: 50 a.m. for Islamabad, arriving at Islamabad International Airport at 11: 40 a.m. It will leave Islamabad at 12: 25 p.m. on the return journey, reaching Bahawalpur at 2: 15 p.m. The one-way fare between Bahawalpur and Islamabad has been set at Rs16,363.

Later the same day, the aircraft will depart Bahawalpur at 2: 45 p.m. for Karachi, landing there at 4: 35 p.m.

The restoration of commercial flight operations at Bahawalpur Airport is expected to significantly improve air connectivity for the region, offering passengers convenient direct access to Karachi and Islamabad, official sources said.

Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Relief, Rehabilitation and Settlement, Aqibullah Khan Sunday said that launch of Digital Disaster Compensation Management System (DDCM) aimed to provide timely relief to victims of natural disasters, ensure transparency in distribution of compensation.

In a statement, he said that provincial Disaster Management Authority has issued Monsoon Contingency Plan 2026 to deal with potential natural disasters during monsoon and summer seasons.

The objective of this plan was to ensure timely preparation, effective response, protection of life and property, and coordinated action among all relevant institutions.

In line with forecasts from Meteorological Department, all concerned institutions have been alerted in advance, and instructions have been issued to deal with any emergency situation timely, Minister said.

He also stressed importance of ensuring implementation of defined SOPs and directed district administrations to keep emergency control rooms fully functional, maintain continuous monitoring of vulnerable areas, and ensure seamless communication and coordination among all departments.
