Faisalabad: Divisional Commissioner Musarrat Jabeen on Sunday carried out an extensive tour of the city to inspect post-rain drainage operations and directed the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to ensure rapid removal of accumulated rainwater and maintain an uninterrupted field presence to provide maximum relief to the citizens during the ongoing monsoon spell.

During her visit to Samundri Road, D-Type Colony, Allama Iqbal Colony, GC Women University Road, Susan Road and other low-lying areas, the divisional commissioner reviewed WASA’s operational response and assessed the pace of dewatering activities.

She instructed WASA officers to remain in the field until rainwater was completely cleared from roads and residential localities.

Emphasizing efficient public service delivery, she also assigned task to the Suthra Punjab Agency for improving cleanliness across the city and said that standard of sanitation on major roads and public thoroughfares must be enhanced.

She said that all available resources should be utilized fully during monsoon season to minimize public inconvenience. Prompt drainage of rainwater and immediate redressal of public complaints should remain top priorities of all civic agencies, she added.

Meanwhile, WASA’s operations staff remained fully mobilized across different parts of the city throughout the rainfall for ensuring the functioning of drainage machinery and continuous monitoring of vulnerable locations.

Sargodha: Paediatrician Dr Humaira Azhar has urged parents to take extra precautions to protect children from seasonal illnesses during the ongoing heatwave and monsoon season.

Talking to reporter here on Sunday, she said the combination of extreme heat, humidity and increased moisture during the monsoon significantly raises the risk of dehydration, diarrhoea, fever, skin infections, colds and other seasonal diseases among children.

Dr Humaita Azhar advised parents to avoid taking children outdoors during peak sunlight hours and to ensure they remain well-hydrated by providing clean drinking water, milk, fresh fruit juices and a balanced diet.

She also stressed the importance of maintaining proper hygiene to minimise the risk of infections. She warned that contaminated water and unhygienic food commonly found during the monsoon season can lead to various illnesses.

Dr Azhar advised families to provide only boiled or safe drinking water and fresh, hygienically prepared food to children.

She further emphasised that mothers of infants should also pay close attention to their own health by drinking adequate amounts of water and consuming a nutritious diet.

She encouraged breastfeeding whenever possible, noting that mother’s milk plays a vital role in strengthening a child’s immune system.

The paediatrician urged parents not to rely solely on home remedies if a child develops a high fever, persistent vomiting, diarrhoea, difficulty breathing or signs of dehydration. She advised seeking immediate medical attention from a qualified doctor to ensure timely diagnosis and treatment.

According to traffic police spokesperson, Chief Traffic Officer Munir Ahmed Hashmi is personally monitoring traffic arrangements through continuous visits to major roads, entry and exit points, key intersections, and other traffic hotspots to ensure the smooth flow of vehicles and facilitate tourists without disruption.

The spokesperson said traffic movement may be affected at certain locations due to ongoing repair work on the RMK Road and the Jhika Gali remodelling project. Tourists and commuters have been advised to use alternate routes, avoid unnecessary travel and follow the instructions of traffic wardens to help maintain traffic flow.

To manage the increased volume of visitors, additional traffic wardens have been deployed at major roads, intersections, and other sensitive locations.

The lifter service has also been activated to remove illegally and improperly parked vehicles to prevent traffic congestion.

Despite the heavy influx of tourists, traffic on most major roads remains smooth, the spokesperson said, adding that temporary congestion may occur at some points as more vehicles continue to enter the hill station. Traffic police teams remain on duty around the clock to manage the situation.

The City Traffic Police urged motorists to observe lane discipline, avoid double parking, refrain from unnecessary overtaking and wrong-way driving, and cooperate with traffic officials to ensure safe and uninterrupted travel.
