Larkana: Larkana Police thwarted an attempt to supply gutka within the jurisdiction of the Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto police station on Tuesday.

A gutka supplier was arrested from the Sukkur Road area along with a Bolan carrier vehicle and 70 kilograms (70,000 grams) of gutka. The arrested suspect has been identified as Raja Kori. He belonged to an inter-district gutka supplier network.

Investigations were ongoing, including checking the suspect’s criminal record and interrogating him about buyers, local dealers, and suppliers.

Attock: A retailer in Hazro, Attock, has been arrested after police registered a case against him for allegedly making unlawful deductions from payments meant for women enrolled in the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), officials said on Tuesday.

According to police, the action was initiated after the Assistant Director of the BISP Hazro Circle lodged a formal complaint, alleging that the retailer, identified as Aziz Ahmed, had been illegally withholding more than Rs1,000 from the financial assistance of female beneficiaries.

Following the complaint, police conducted an inquiry and verified the statements of the affected women. The investigation confirmed the allegations, prompting authorities to register a case against the suspect under relevant legal provisions.

The accused was taken into custody and shifted to jail, while further investigation is underway. Authorities reiterated their commitment to protecting BISP beneficiaries and warned that anyone involved in exploiting welfare recipients would face strict legal action.

Gujrat: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA), on the directions of Deputy Director PFA Sadia Rafat, inspected 72 food businesses across Gujrat district during an enforcement drive against food safety violations and imposed fines totaling Rs103,500 on eight food outlets.

According to official sources, the authority issued 26 improvement notices for various violations, collected eight food samples for laboratory analysis and registered an FIR over a serious violation.

During the operation, officials destroyed 1.5 kilograms of expired food items and seized 868 sachets of banned gutka.

The PFA reiterated its commitment to ensuring the availability of safe, quality and hygienic food and said indiscriminate action against violators and banned and hazardous products would continue.
