Attock: A 35-year-old woman was swept away by the strong current of the Indus River near Mullan Mansoor in Hazro Tehsil on Tuesday, prompting Rescue 1122 to launch an extensive search operation to locate her.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, the woman, the wife of Akhtar Ali, was cutting grass along the riverbank when she reportedly lost her footing, slipped into the river, and was carried away by the fast-flowing water.

Rescue 1122 Attock responded immediately after receiving the emergency call, dispatching an ambulance and specialized Water Rescue Teams to the scene. Trained rescue divers equipped with modern SCUBA gear began a coordinated search operation in an effort to trace the missing woman.

Officials said the search operation remains underway and will continue until the woman is recovered.

Faisalabad: The experts said that universities can achieve excellence by strengthening research culture and equipping faculty members with modern academic skills to hone the God-given abilities of young generation that are the guarantee of a bright future.

They were addressing a three-day Senior Faculty Training Workshop at University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF). The workshop was organized by the Directorate of Academics and Teaching Resource Center at UAF.

At the inaugural session, Dean Agriculture Dr Ghulam Murtaza said that UAF is committed to fostering innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration and international engagement to further strengthen its position as a leading agricultural university.

He said that continuous professional development is essential to preparing future academic leaders capable of responding to emerging challenges in higher education and agriculture.

Director Academics Dr Rao Sabir Sattar said that senior faculty members play a pivotal role in mentoring young academics, securing competitive research funding and producing impactful research that addresses national and global agricultural challenges.

He said that training has been designed to help senior faculty align departmental strategies with the goals of the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

Director ORIC Dr Sultan Habib Ullah, Dean Dr Rao Zahid Abbas, Dr Babak Mahmood from GCUF, Dr Sarfraz, Dr Imran Pasha and others also spoke on the occasion.

Chiniot: District Police Officer (DPO) Dr. Naveed Atif on Tuesday reiterated the Punjab government’s commitment to improving public service delivery, saying citizens’ grievances would be addressed promptly under the open-door policy envisioned by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

During a public hearing at the DPO Office, Dr. Atif met complainants, listened to their concerns, and directed relevant officers to process applications without delay and ensure responses within the prescribed timeframe. He also instructed the Police Complaint Cell to closely monitor pending cases and submit follow-up reports.

Addressing the gathering, the DPO said the district police had introduced modern technology across all police stations to improve services and ensure that citizens’ issues were resolved on a priority basis. He directed field officers to treat members of the public with courtesy, resolve their complaints efficiently, and avoid unnecessary delays.

Dr. Atif warned that negligence or mistreatment of citizens at police offices or stations would not be tolerated. He encouraged residents whose complaints remain unresolved at the police station level to approach his office directly without hesitation. To further facilitate the public, he said a dedicated WhatsApp complaint service (0370-4022020) had been launched, enabling citizens to submit complaints from their homes. He also urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting criminal activity, saying community support was essential for effective crime prevention and bringing offenders to justice.
