Deputy Commissioner directs timely distribution of Safe Birth Kits in Murree


Rawalpindi: The district administration and healthcare officials have launched an initiative to provide Safe Birth Kits to healthcare workers serving in the remote and hard-to-reach areas of Murree in an effort to improve maternal and newborn health and reduce preventable deaths.



The decision was taken during a meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Murree, chaired by the Deputy Commissioner. Chief Executive Officer of the Sakina Foundation, Lt Gen (Retd) Asif Sukhera, attended the meeting as a special guest, while Deputy District Health Officer (DDHO) Dr Maryam Ali participated as the district focal person.



The meeting decided that Lady Health Visitors (LHVs) and Women Medical Officers (WMOs)/Lady Doctors providing healthcare services in remote areas of the district would be supplied with Safe Birth Kits to promote clean and safe deliveries and help reduce maternal and neonatal mortality.



Officials said the Safe Birth Kit is a comprehensive package designed in accordance with standard hygiene protocols to ensure safe childbirth, minimize the risk of postpartum infections and prevent postpartum haemorrhage (PPH)-one of the leading causes of maternal deaths during childbirth.



The package also includes injectable iron for the treatment of iron deficiency anaemia among pregnant women, a common health condition during pregnancy that significantly contributes to maternal illness and pregnancy-related complications.



Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner described the initiative as a commendable humanitarian effort aimed at strengthening maternal healthcare services in underserved areas of the district. He directed all Deputy District Health Officers (DDHOs) to ensure the timely distribution of the kits and their effective utilization so that maximum benefit reaches expectant mothers living in far-flung communities.

Woman killed, husband injured in Kahror Pakka accident


Lodhran: A woman was killed while her husband sustained injuries in a road traffic accident near Allah Waraya Chowk on Mailsi Road, Kehror Pakka on Saturday.



According to Rescue 1122, the couple, identified as Nasra Parveen and Gulzar Hussain, residents of Mailsi city, were travelling on a motorcycle from Mailsi towards Kahror Pakka when another motorcyclist, after refuelling at a nearby petrol pump, entered the main road abruptly. The two motorcycles collided, causing the couple’s motorcycle to crash into a passing goods motor rickshaw.



As a result, Nasra Parveen sustained a critical head injury and died at the scene, while Gulzar Hussain, suffered injuries.



Rescue 1122 reached the site and shifted the deceased woman and the injured to THQ hospital, Kehror Pakka.

Woman seriously injured in water dispute attack in Murree


Rawalpindi: A man was arrested within hours after allegedly attacking a woman with a dagger over a water dispute in the jurisdiction of Phagwari Police Station in Murree, police said on Saturday.



According to official, the incident occurred in Dhoke Bandi village, where the suspect allegedly stabbed a woman following an altercation over the distribution of water.



The victim sustained multiple injuries and was shifted to hospital for treatment.



Taking notice of the incident, Deputy Commissioner Murree Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi directed the authorities to ensure immediate action and the arrest of the accused.



District Police Officer (DPO) Murree, Raza Tanveer Sapra, also ordered prompt registration of a criminal case and supervised the investigation.



Police registered FIR No. 93/26 under Section 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code (attempt to commit murder) at Phagwari Police Station.



On the instructions of the DPO, a special police team headed by the Station House Officer (SHO) conducted a swift operation and arrested the suspect, identified as Ishtehaq, son of Riaz, a resident of Dhoke Bandi in Lower Deval, Murree.



The injured woman, identified as Nabeela Nisar, wife of Abdul Qadeer and a resident of Dhoke Bandi, suffered serious injuries to her arm, fingers and other parts of her body after being attacked with the dagger.



She was immediately shifted to a hospital, where she is receiving medical treatment.



District administration and police officials reaffirmed their commitment to ensure the safety of women across the district, stating that strict legal action would be taken against anyone attempting to take the law into their own hands.

Dr. Musadik meets Xizang Vice Chairman


Islamabad: Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, held a meeting with the Vice Chairman of the People’s Government of the Xizang Autonomous Region, Xu Zitao, on the sidelines of the 5th China Xizang Trans-Himalaya Forum.

The Vice Chairman warmly welcomed the Federal Minister and briefed the Pakistani delegation on the history, geography, political development, economic progress, and rich cultural heritage of the Xizang Autonomous Region.

He also highlighted the region’s development model, which places strong emphasis on ecological conservation and environmental protection.

During the meeting, the Vice Chairman noted that Xizang has undergone significant socio-economic transformation over the past several decades, underscoring the improvements in public welfare, infrastructure, and socio-economic development across the region.

The Vice Chairman informed the Minister that environmental protection remains a central component of Xizang’s development strategy.

He stated that the region is home to 47 national parks and that development initiatives are being pursued while preserving its unique ecological and environmental characteristics.

He also highlighted Xizang’s rich cultural and religious diversity and noted the historical presence of a small Muslim community of Kashmiri origin in the region.

Dr. Musadik Malik thanked the Vice Chairman for his warm hospitality.

He reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and Strategic Cooperative Partnership between Pakistan and China and noted that both countries continue to enjoy close cooperation across a wide range of sectors.

The two sides discussed opportunities to further strengthen collaboration in environmental protection, climate change, scientific research, innovation, mountain ecosystem conservation, biodiversity protection, and sustainable development.

The minister emphasized that both Pakistan and Xizang share similar ecological and mountain environments and can benefit greatly from enhanced knowledge-sharing,
and institutional partnerships.

The meeting also touched upon the importance of traditional knowledge systems, including Tibetan medicine.

It was noted that several traditional medicinal practices associated with the region are also familiar in Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan region, presenting further opportunities for academic and research collaboration.

Dr. Musadik Malik reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening cooperation with China and expressed confidence that closer collaboration in climate action and scientific research would further deepen the enduring friendship between the two countries.

DPM reviews diplomatic engagements of MOFA


Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a meeting with Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and discussed recent diplomatic engagements.



The meeting covered follow-up actions, ongoing diplomatic priorities, and preparations for upcoming engagements. DPM/FM emphasized the importance of close coordination, effective implementation of diplomatic initiatives, and sustained efforts towards advancing Pakistan’s foreign policy objectives and national interests.

President calls for peaceful resolution of Kashmir dispute


Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari said Pakistan has consistently advocated a peaceful and just resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.



In a message on Kashmir’s Accession to Pakistan Day (Youm-e-Ilhaq-e-Pakistan), 19th July 2026, the President said, “We urge the international community, particularly the United Nations, to fulfil its responsibility by supporting efforts aimed at ensuring the realisation of the Kashmiri people’s inalienable right to self-determination.



“??Today, we pay tribute to the historic resolution adopted by the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference on 19 July 1947, which reflected the political aspirations of the Muslims of Jammu and Kashmir at a defining moment in the history of the subcontinent,” he added.



?He said, “The observance of this day reminds us of the deep-rooted historical, cultural and spiritual bonds between the people of Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir. It also reaffirms the enduring significance of respecting the freely expressed will of the Kashmiri people in determining their future.”



“?For nearly eight decades, the Jammu and Kashmir dispute has remained unresolved despite the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions recognising the right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to self-determination. The continued denial of this fundamental right, coupled with persistent human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), remains a matter of serious concern for the international community,” he added.



He saluted the courage, resilience and steadfastness of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, who have made immense sacrifices in pursuit of their legitimate rights.



“Pakistan will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with our Kashmiri brothers and sisters and extend unwavering diplomatic, political and moral support until they are able to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination.May this day renew our collective resolve to work for a peaceful, just and lasting settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, leading to enduring peace, security and prosperity in South Asia,” he concluded.
