Lahore: The Punjab government has set July 30 as the new deadline for completion of key construction works under the Bhati Gate expansion and Data Darbar upgradation projects in Lahore.

The government has directed all concerned departments to complete essential civil works and open important roads for public use before the Urs of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA) and Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) on August 1.

According to sources, the deadline was issued to accelerate work on the ongoing projects in the historic area of Lahore and ensure better travel facilities for citizens and pilgrims attending the religious events.

The Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency (TEPA) has been tasked with completing major civil works within the stipulated period. It has been directed to open the Bhati Gate underpass for traffic and ensure rehabilitation of all adjoining roads by July 30.

Lahore: Lahore Police has promoted 54 constables to the rank of head constable on the basis of merit and seniority.

The promotions were approved by the Promotion Board, chaired by DIG Admin Imran Kishor, with SSP Legal Ghulam Hussain and SP Headquarters Munazza Karamat in attendance.

The promoted officials belong to various wings, including Operations, Investigation and Security Division.

Among those promoted are Faisal Akbar Bhatti, Qaiser Hayat, Muhammad Sher Khan, Muhammad Tariq, Aqeel Ahmed, Imran Sardar, Mudassar Ali, Muhammad Naeem, Aamir Abbas and Majid Naseer, among others, who were promoted to the post of Head Constable.

CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamiana congratulated the personnel and urged them to perform their duties with dedication and professionalism, saying the new rank carries greater responsibilities.

Lahore: Doctors at the Pediatrics Department of Lahore General Hospital (LGH) have successfully saved the lives of eight critically ill newborns who were admitted in extremely serious condition during the past month, hospital authorities said on Saturday.

Medical Superintendent LGH Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain said the infants were brought to the hospital suffering from severe oxygen deficiency that had affected their lungs and brains, placing them in a life-threatening condition. They were immediately shifted to the Pediatrics Intensive Care Unit (ICU), placed on ventilator support and provided round-the-clock monitoring and specialized treatment by a dedicated medical team using advanced medical equipment.

He said timely diagnosis, ventilator support, modern treatment facilities and the tireless efforts of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff enabled the newborns to make a full recovery. All eight infants have now been discharged and reunited with their families.

Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain noted that neonatal ICU treatment and ventilator care in the private sector are extremely expensive and beyond the financial reach of many middle and low-income families. However, under the “Patient First” vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and the policies of the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department, Lahore General Hospital is providing free, high-quality and modern healthcare services to all patients, including newborns, without discrimination.

He praised the professionalism, dedication and commitment of the Pediatrics Department, saying their teamwork and use of advanced medical technology had given critically ill newborns a new lease on life.

The Medical Superintendent said the hospital administration was continuously upgrading pediatric healthcare facilities to ensure every child receives the best possible treatment.

Parents of the recovered infants expressed gratitude to the doctors, nursing staff and hospital administration for providing free and quality medical care. They also thanked the Punjab government and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for strengthening public healthcare services in the province.

Lahore: Zahid Parvez on Saturday assumed charge as the Managing Director of the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Lahore and pledged to accelerate the implementation of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s Green Lahore Vision through efficient project execution, environmental sustainability and enhanced urban beautification.

He was warmly received by senior officers upon his arrival at the PHA headquarters. Soon after assuming office, the newly appointed managing director chaired a high-level introductory meeting at the authority’s Jilani Park headquarters.

The meeting was attended by Additional Directors Nabeel Riaz Sandhu, Sonia Kaleem and Zona Waheed, Director Finance Ahmad Saeed Manj, Director Marketing Naeem Afzal, Director Coordination Farah Diba, Director Engineering Samavia, Muhammad Hassan, besides horticulture directors, project directors and other senior officials.

During the meeting, senior officers presented detailed briefings on ongoing development schemes, city beautification initiatives, horticulture activities and the authority’s administrative affairs. The managing director reviewed the pace of work on various projects aimed at improving Lahore’s green infrastructure and public spaces.

Addressing the meeting, Zahid Parvez directed all officers to ensure the effective implementation of the chief minister’s Green Lahore Vision, stressing that transparency, quality workmanship and timely completion of all ongoing projects must remain the authority’s top priorities.

He said the PHA was committed to providing citizens with a greener, cleaner and more environmentally sustainable urban environment through the expansion and preservation of parks, green belts and landscaped public spaces across the city.

The managing director emphasized that the authority’s objectives could only be achieved through teamwork, professional excellence, effective planning and close inter-departmental coordination. He urged officers to perform their responsibilities with dedication and efficiency to further enhance Lahore’s beauty and environmental health.

Expressing confidence in the team’s capabilities, Zahid Parvez said the PHA would make every effort to transform Lahore into a greener, more vibrant and aesthetically appealing metropolitan city in line with the vision of the Punjab government.

Lahore: Sherakot police arrested an alleged kite seller and recovered 500 ready-made kites during an operation in the Babu Sabu area,police said on Saturday.

According to police,the suspect,identified as Zharf was arrested during a raid conducted by Sherakot police.

She said the accused used cardboard boxes to transport and sell kites in order to conceal the activity from law enforcement officials.

Police added that the suspect was also involved in supplying kites to other districts.

A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the law while further investigation was underway.

Police said strict action was being taken against kite sellers and flyers under a zero-tolerance policy,adding that operations against those involved in the illegal trade would continue.
