Hyderabad: In the case of murder of the Superintendent of Government Girls College, Qasimabad, the Naseem Nagar police here on Sunday lodged an FIR besides arresting the main accused.

According to details, the case has been lodged on the complaint of Asif Akhund, nephew of the slain 50 years old Riaz Akhund, who was allegedly shot dead by his sister in law’s husband Fayaz Memon over property dispute.

The police claimed that they also recovered a pistol and live bullets believed to have been used in the crime.

The complainant stated that the dispute cropped up between Akhund and Memon over their father in law’s property.

The Mayor of Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC) Kashif Ali Shoro expressed sadness over the killing, appreciating the Akhund family’s contribution in the academic arena.

He assured the family of his complete cooperation as the police investigated the case to bring the culprit to the book.

Multan: A man was shot dead over suspicion of illicit relations in Dera Din Panah area of Kot Addu. Police said on Sunday that Nadeem Boha and Dilawar Hussain alias Dilli called Muhammad Tariq, to the drawing room of Nadeem Nai alias Baloch on the pretext of a meeting. As soon as he reached the drawing room, Nadeem Nai alias Baloch opened fire at Muhammad Tariq with a Kalashnikov, while his accomplice, Noman alias Nomi, fired with a pistol. Tariq died on the spot. The alleged accused Nadeem Nai alias Baloch had suspicion on the victim of having illicit relations with his sister. Dera Din Panah police have registered a case against Nadeem Nai alias Baloch, Noman alias Nomi, Nadeem Boha and Dilawar Hussain alias Dilli under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The police have launched a search operation for the arrest of accused.

Rawalpindi: Residents of Rawalpindi have urged the relevant authorities to take immediate steps to improve the city’s ageing sewerage and water supply infrastructure ahead of the monsoon season, saying that worn-out underground pipelines in several parts of the city require urgent replacement.

Talking to reporter, Muhammad Aslam said that many sewerage and water supply lines had become old and damaged over the years. He said that in some areas there were concerns that leaking pipelines could contaminate drinking water, increasing the risk of waterborne diseases.

Another resident, Abdul Rehman, told reporter that blocked drains and an outdated sewerage system caused rainwater to accumulate on roads and in streets during heavy showers, creating serious problems for residents.

He stressed that the authorities should inspect vulnerable pipelines, clear drainage channels and replace damaged sewerage lines before the peak monsoon season.

Residents urged the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) and other concerned departments to launch a comprehensive inspection of the city’s sewerage network, replace ageing pipelines and take preventive measures to ensure the smooth drainage of rainwater and the supply of safe drinking water. They said timely action would help protect public health and minimize the impact of monsoon rains on daily life.

Vehari: Food safety team foiled an attempt to supply a large quantity of dead chickens in Vehari, by seizing a loader rickshaw carrying more than 20 maunds of dead poultry in the 155/WB Thingi area. According to PFA spokesperson, the dead chickens were being shifted for supply to hotels and fast-food outlets at various locations. The food safety team destroyed the entire consignment on the spot, registered an FIR against the supplier, and handed over the loader rickshaw to the police for further legal action.

Sargodha: Police arrested 26 suspects,including nine proclaimed offenders(PO’s),during a crackdown across the district,officials said on Sunday.

According to police,teams from various police stations conducted raids at different locations over the past 24 hours and apprehended the accused involved in various criminal cases.

The arrested suspects were identified as Aslam,Nouman,Sultan,Shamus,Shamsahir,Saqib,Hassan,Mehmood,Tipu,Taimoor, Majeed,Sarwar,Saqlain,Sibtain Khan and Anjum among others.

Police said the suspects were wanted in connection with serious offenses,including murder,attempted murder,robbery, dacoity,cattle theft and motorcycle theft cases.

A police spokesperson said stolen motorcycles,cattle,narcotics including heroin,opium,hashish and ice,as well as illegal weapons were recovered from the possession of the arrested suspects.

Cases have been registered against the accused while further investigations was underway.
