Kohat: Acting on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nawaz, Additional Assistant Commissioner Gambat Syed Mukhtiar Shah conducted inspections in Gambat Bazaar on Friday to enforce official price lists and monitor the sale of essential commodities. Vegetable, fruit and grocery shops were inspected, while traders found overcharging customers were fined and warned against future violations.

In a separate visit, the additional assistant commissioner inspected the Rural Health Center (RHC) Gambat, reviewing staff attendance, medicine stocks, official records and overall administrative arrangements to ensure the facility was functioning efficiently.

He also visited the office of the Assistant Director Local Government in Gambat, where sanitation and water supply shortcomings were identified. Officials were directed to address the deficiencies without delay and improve the overall working environment of the office.

The inspections were part of the district administration’s ongoing efforts to enforce government regulations, improve public service delivery and ensure better civic and administrative standards across the district.

Gujrat: Five employees of the Irrigation Department, who had been stranded for four days in a flood-affected area near the Zero Line beyond Post Nandala after flash flooding cut off their access route, were rescued by Rescue 1122 on Friday.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, the workers were constructing a protective embankment when a sudden rise in floodwater submerged their return route, leaving them stranded.

Rescue 1122 teams reached the site and safely evacuate all five workers. The operation lasted around seven hours.

The rescued workers were identified as Imran Khan(18), Sifat Ullah(40), Imran Sarwar(20), Muhammad Mansha(22), and Ali Raza(25).

Officials said all five workers were brought to safety after the prolonged rescue operation.

Rawalpindi: Commissioner Rawalpindi Division and Director General Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Salman Ghani on Friday reviewed the progress of the RDA’s multi-storey commercial building project on Plot No. 13-A, Mayo Road (Rashid Minhas Road), and directed the authorities concerned to expedite construction while maintaining quality and safety standards.

During the visit, the commissioner inspected the pace and quality of work and instructed the engineering team to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe without compromising approved specifications.

He described the project as strategically important for the authority and stressed that unnecessary delays would not be tolerated.

In view of the ongoing monsoon season, Salman Ghani directed the project management to implement comprehensive safety measures to protect the structure, construction material, machinery and workforce from rain-related risks.

He said occupational safety, public convenience and the uninterrupted execution of the project should remain the foremost priorities throughout the construction period.

The commissioner said the timely completion of the multi-storey commercial building would strengthen the institutional infrastructure of the RDA, enhance its commercial assets and contribute to improved public service delivery.

Salman reiterated the authority’s commitment to completing ongoing development projects efficiently and transparently in line with the Punjab government’s vision for sustainable urban development.

Kohat: Two government officials on Friday were killed and three others injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire on their vehicle near a toll plaza on the Indus Highway the district , the official sources said.

The bodies were identified as Excise Sub-Inspector, Sajjad Al-Salam and Customs Employee, Jawad. They said both died at the spot after the attackers sprayed the vehicle with gunfire.

Three injured people were taken to a nearby hospital, they said, adding their conditions were not immediately known. The police and other law enforcement personnel cordoned off the area after the attack and launched a search operation to apprehend the assailants, who fled the scene. Funeral prayers for Sajjad Al-Salam will be held in Khushgi Bala, while Jawad will be laid to rest in Chakdara.

Mirpur: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday unveiled an ambitious development agenda for Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), promising to complete key infrastructure projects, establish modern healthcare facilities and build an international airport in Mirpur if the party forms the next government in the region.

Addressing a large election rally in Mirpur, he said several landmark projects initiated during his tenure remained unfinished after his government left office and pledged to revive them to accelerate the region’s socio-economic development.

Describing himself as a Kashmiri, Nawaz Sharif said Kashmir was not his second home but his first. He recalled launching the Triple M Motorway project during his previous government and said its completion would have transformed connectivity and economic activity across AJK. He pledged to complete the motorway, extend the Murree Expressway to Muzaffarabad and personally oversee development initiatives across the region alongside a future PML-N government.

Outlining the party’s manifesto, the former prime minister announced plans to establish new schools, colleges and universities, provide free medicines in government hospitals on the Punjab model and build state-of-the-art cancer, cardiac and children’s hospitals equipped with modern medical facilities. He also promised to establish an international airport in Mirpur, improve access to clean drinking water and expand essential civic infrastructure throughout AJK. Nawaz Sharif added that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had already gifted Mirpur a fleet of modern air-conditioned public buses as a sign of the party’s commitment to the region.

Referring to the political climate, Nawaz Sharif called for respectful democratic competition, saying political differences should never become personal hostility. Mentioning PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, he said, “Bilawal is my brother. Politics may bring differences of opinion, but there should be no bitterness.”

The rally was also addressed by PML-N candidates Chaudhry Muhammad Saeed, Chaudhry Tariq Farooq, Azhar Sadiq, Fateh Mehmood-ul-Hassan, Chaudhry Rukhsar, Yasir Mansha and federal ministers, who urged voters to support the party in the upcoming elections.

Naseerabad: Acting Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Police Naseerabad, Asad Nasar, presided over an important meeting of the Minority Peace Committee, attended by leaders of the minority community.

The meeting discussed security concerns faced by minority groups, the maintenance of law and order during religious events, and measures to promote interfaith harmony. Participants shared their reservations and suggestions directly with the DIG Police.

DIG Asad Nasar assured the community that the protection of minorities’ lives and property remains a top priority for the police. He pledged that all available resources would be utilized to provide a safe and peaceful environment, while effective steps would be taken to address their legitimate concerns.

He further emphasized the need to strengthen coordination between district police and minority communities to foster peace, brotherhood, and religious harmony.

Participants appreciated the initiatives taken by the police for the protection of minorities and assured their full cooperation in promoting peace and unity.
