Mirpur: The election campaign for the July 27 general elections in Mirpur Division of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) will officially conclude at midnight between July 25 and July 26, District Returning Officer (DRO) Mirpur Jahangir Ahmed Jarral announced on Friday. The deadline has been set in accordance with the election schedule, the Election Commission of AJK’s Code of Conduct and relevant election laws, including Section 112.

The elections to the 53-member AJK Legislative Assembly are being held in three phases. Polling in Mirpur Division will take place on July 27, followed by elections in Muzaffarabad Division and the 12 seats reserved for Pakistan-based Jammu and Kashmir refugees on August 2, while polling in Poonch Division will be held on August 10.

In an official statement, the DRO directed all contesting candidates, political parties, election agents and workers to strictly observe the campaign deadline. He said that after midnight on July 25-26, no public meetings, rallies, processions, corner meetings or any other form of election-related gathering would be permitted within the constituencies.

Jarral urged all stakeholders to fully comply with the Election Commission’s directives to ensure peaceful, free, fair and transparent elections. He warned that any violation of election laws or the Code of Conduct would invite legal action under the relevant provisions of the law.

Hyderabad: Commissioner Shaheed Benazirabad Division, Shahmir Khan Bhutto, distributed promotion orders among 31 employees of the Revenue Department of Shaheed Benazirabad Division during a ceremony held at Darbar Hall.

These employees were promoted through Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC). Among them, 11 Junior Clerks were promoted to the posts of Senior Clerk, while 20 Tapedars were promoted to the posts of Supervising Tapedar. Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Shahmir Khan Bhutto congratulated the promoted employees and said that promotion is a recognition of an employee’s hard work, honesty, and dedication to duty. He said that promotion also brings greater responsibilities, therefore employees should utilize their abilities to provide better and more transparent public services. He said that Revenue Department is a vital component of government’s administrative structure, and its performance has a direct impact on the delivery of public services. He expressed confidence that the promoted employees would continue to perform their duties with commitment, integrity, and professionalism in their new positions, further enhancing the reputation of the department.

Deputy Commissioner Shaheed Benazirabad Abdul Samad Nizamani, Deputy Commissioner Sanghar Sarah Javed, and Deputy Commissioner Naushahro Feroze Muhammad Arsalan Saleem also distributed promotion orders among the promoted employees during the ceremony.

Sargodha: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) seized and destroyed more than six maunds of meat after raiding an illegal slaughterhouse operating under unhygienic conditions on Bhalwal Road, officials said on Friday.

Acting on a tip-off, a PFA team conducted a surprise inspection of the facility in Gulshan Saeed, where meat was allegedly being processed in violation of hygiene and food safety standards.

A veterinary doctor accompanying the team declared the meat unfit for human consumption, prompting authorities to dispose of the entire stock at a designated dumping site.

The PFA also registered a first information report (FIR) against those involved in running the illegal slaughterhouse and initiated legal proceedings.

A PFA spokesperson said the operation prevented contaminated meat from reaching consumers and reiterated the authority’s commitment to continuing its crackdown on food adulteration and illegal slaughterhouses across the division.

The spokesperson urged citizens to report cases of food adulteration and other illegal food-related activities through the PFA helpline(1223) to help safeguard public health.

Faisalabad: As per the instructions of Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the district administration Chiniot along with other concerned departments are fully active to deal with the moderate flood situation in the Chenab River.

In this regard, the Commissioner Imran Hamid Sheikh visited Mouza Sahmal and Adda Jamiaabad last night. Deputy Commissioner Ayesha Rizwan, Assistant Commissioner Sheena Azam and other officers were accompanied by him.

The commissioner supervised the relief activities during the flood situation in Mouza Sahmal, tehsil Bhowana and also visited the flood relief camp set up at the Government College, Adda Jamiaabad.

The commissioner appreciated the district administration’s preventive and relief activities upon receiving the information about passing more than 250, 000 cusecs flood water in the district and expressed satisfaction over the performance of Rescue 1122, Health, Livestock, Agriculture and other departments.

The deputy commissioner during briefing said that the district administration Chiniot has so far shifted 4, 338 people from the flood-affected areas to safe places, and more than 3500 animals have been evacuated. Three relief and six rescue camps are fully operational in the district.

The Commissioner directed to utilize all out resources for protection of the lives and property of the people in flooding situations.

Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Special Assistant (SA) to the Chief Minister on Home and Tribal Affairs, Tariq Saeed Marwat, on Friday attended the funeral prayers of three personnel martyred in a terrorist attack at the Manji Khel check post in Tank district, reaffirming the government’s resolve to eliminate terrorism and support the families of the martyrs.

The funeral prayers for Police Constables Bilal Khan and Tala Muhammad, and Forest Guard Noor Azam, who embraced martyrdom in the attack on Thursday night, were held at Police Lines Tank.

Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shahab Ali Shah, Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed, Additional IG CTD Javed Qamar, RPO Dera Ismail Khan Ghulam Mubashir Mekan, the Commissioner Dera Ismail Khan, DPO Tank Abdul Samad Khan, Deputy Commissioner Tank Jamshed Khan, senior police and civil administration officials, security personnel and local elders also attended the funeral.

Floral wreaths were laid on the coffins of the martyrs, while a smartly turned-out police contingent presented a guard of honour with full official protocol.

Expressing heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, Tariq Saeed Marwat said the provincial government stood firmly with the families of the martyrs and would ensure their welfare, support and assistance.

He also offered prayers for the departed souls, the speedy recovery of the injured and lasting peace and stability in the country.

Later, accompanied by the Chief Secretary, the Inspector General of Police and other senior officials, the Special Assistant visited the injured personnel, including Constables Ismatullah, Jasim Khan, Daud Khan and Pir Ghulam, at the hospital.

He praised their bravery and assured them that the government would provide the best possible medical treatment, financial assistance and all required facilities.

Tariq Saeed Marwat said the sacrifices of the nation’s brave martyrs would never be forgotten and their blood would not go in vain.

He added that the people, the government and law enforcement agencies were united in the fight against terrorism.

He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, the provincial government was utilizing all available resources to ensure the protection of lives and property, uphold the rule of law and establish lasting peace across the province.

Faisalabad: Khurarianwala police have solved a blind murder case by arresting three close relatives of the victim including his father-in-law.

Police spokesman said here on Friday that 29-year-old Azeem Abbas, a resident Chak No. 227-RB, was shot dead under mysterious circumstances while traveling on his motorcycle near Chak No. 205-RB Bypass when he was going to perform his duty in a local mill on Sheikhupura Road on July 7, 2026.

The police after registering a complaint started investigation and after using technical sources traced out the blind murder. The police arrested three relatives of the victim including his father-in-law Shahbaz, his brother-in-law Qasim and Qasim’s friend Ghulam Rasool over suspicion.

However, during interrogation, the accused confessed the offence and told the police that the killing was motivated by domestic disputes and resentment over restrictions on their daughter’s contact with her parental family.

Station House Officer (SHO) Khurarianwala police station Atif Shehzad locked the accused behind bars while further investigation was under progress, he added.
