Sargodha: Assistant Commissioner (AC) Sargodha Yusra Sohail Butt on Sunday inspected the route of the mourning procession scheduled for the second Sunday of Safar to review administrative arrangements on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Hussain Ahmad Raza Chaudhry.

Accompanied by Chief Officer Municipal Corporation Ahmad Bilal, she reviewed sanitation, sewerage, street lighting and encroachment removal measures along the route.

The AC directed relevant departments to complete all pending arrangements before the procession and ensure close coordination for its peaceful conduct.

Sialkot: Government College Women University Sialkot (GCWUS) on Sunday invited applications for the One Young World Leading Scholarship 2026, offering students a fully funded opportunity to attend the summit in Cape Town, South Africa.

According to a press release issued by the university, young leaders from around the world can apply to participate in the prestigious international event. The scholarship covers complete travel costs to and from Cape Town, hotel accommodation, meals throughout the summit, and full delegate access to all sessions and activities.

Bahawalpur: The Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) sealed eight illegal healthcare facilities and registered two criminal cases against quacks during a crackdown against unqualified medical practitioners.

According to a PHC spokesperson, the operation was conducted under the supervision of Dr Osama Mumtaz in Islami Colony, Bindra Pull, the vicinity of Bahawal Victoria Hospital and Basti Sahlan.

The inspection teams checked 20 healthcare facilities, sealing four clinics run by unqualified practitioners along with unregistered laboratories and unauthorized X-ray centers for violating healthcare regulations.

The spokesperson said show-cause notices were also issued to facilities operating without registration. Two FIRs were registered against quacks who allegedly broke official seals placed on their premises by the commission.

The PHC said strict action would continue against illegal healthcare setups to ensure the provision of safe medical services to citizens.

Burewala: The Gaggo Mandi police on Sunday registered a case under the Anti-Rape Act against a female complainant for allegedly retracting her earlier statement and testifying in favor of the accused.

According to police officials, the complainant, a resident of Chak No. 365/EB, had initially filed a case against the accused, identified as Younas, son of Noor Muhammad, a resident of Chak No. 361/EB. Following the registration of the case, the police had promptly arrested the accused. However, during the course of the investigation, the complainant allegedly reversed her initial allegations and recorded a new statement favoring the accused.

The police stated that the move appeared to be aimed at providing undue legal benefit to the accused. Taking strict notice of the false testimony and retraction, the authorities registered a separate case against the complainant under the relevant legal provisions of the Anti-Rape Act.

Multan: Rural Education and Economic Development Society (REEDS) Pakistan and the Livestock and Dairy Development Department on Sunday launched a livestock vaccination and deworming campaign in 20 villages of Union Council 175 Sheni, Tehsil Jalalpur Pir Wala.

The drive, supported by Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH) under the Flood Recovery and Resilience Project, aimed to protect livestock health and strengthen the resilience of vulnerable riverine communities ahead of the monsoon season.

A total of 11, 434 large and small animals were treated during the campaign. Of these, 4, 714 were vaccinated against Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD), 1, 739 received Enterotoxaemia Vaccine (ETV), and 4, 981 were dewormed to control internal parasites.

Dr Benjamin Barkat, Manager Program DRR at REEDS, lauded the Livestock and Dairy Development Department for its services to riverine communities and acknowledged the role of the village development committee in ensuring the campaign’s effectiveness. He also credited the project team, including agricultural expert Shakeel and social mobilizers Naseem Jahan and Ghulam Yaseen, for the drive’s success.

Hyacinth, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at REEDS, supervised the campaign to ensure quality service delivery to farmers.

Dr Uzair, Veterinary Officer at Jalalpur Pir Wala, appreciated REEDS Pakistan’s efforts and stressed the importance of coordinated action among stakeholders in delivering veterinary services to underserved rural populations.

Multan: Horticulture Agency Multan, Managing Director Syed Waseem Hassan, said that the agency completed the plantation of more than 3, 000 shady trees and ornamental plants along the city’s green belts as part of its ongoing environmental improvement campaign.

He said the plantation drive has covered key locations, including Vehari road, Southern bypass to Sahu chowk, the Metro route and several other areas. An additional 5, 000 trees will be planted during August to further enhance the city’s green cover.

The MD said tree plantation and grass development were also underway at major parks and public squares across the city. Construction work at Khatam-e-Nabuwwat chowk (14 Number Chowk) has been completed, while beautification projects under public-private partnership were in progress successfully.

He added that paintwork has been completed at 9 Number chowk, Rashidabad chowk and the wall of the University of Education. The agency was also taking steps to increase its self-generated income to strengthen institutional sustainability.

Syed Waseem Hassan, said development, beautification and plantation initiatives would continue across Multan. Ongoing projects include Chungi No. 14, Aziz Hotel Chowk, Chungi No. 9, Rashidabad Flyover, Katchery Flyover and Shah Shams Park.

He further stated that an extensive plantation campaign will continue throughout the current month and August, while the restoration and beautification of Bahawalpur Bypass will be completed soon. More trees will also be planted along green belts and at major city intersections to improve the urban environment.
