Sukkur: Renowned philanthropist Dr. Khalil Memon and his family, who are visiting from the United States, paid a special visit to the Thalassaemia and Haemophilia Center run by the Sukkur Blood and Drugs Donating Society (SBDDS) here on Sunday.

During the visit, Dr. Memon and his family spent time with children suffering from Thalassaemia, inquired about their health and treatment facilities, and lauded the selfless services of SBDDS, which has been providing free blood transfusions and medical care to hundreds of children for decades.

On the occasion, Dr. Memon and his family distributed cash and gifts among the Thalassaemia children, bringing smiles to their faces. The children and their parents expressed heartfelt gratitude for this gesture of love and compassion.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Khalil Memon said that serving humanity is the greatest worship and appreciated the dedicated team of SBDDS for becoming a ray of hope for poor and needy families. He assured his full support to the organization in future as well.

The management of SBDDS thanked Dr. Khalil Memon and his family for their visit and generous support, and said that such visits from overseas Pakistanis greatly encourage the children and boost the morale of volunteers working for this noble cause.

Taxila: Assistant Commissioner (AC) Taxila Maria Javed on Sunday visited the TEVTA College Taxila to review progress on the Punjab government’s “Saanjhi Sabzi, Muft Sabzi” (Shared Vegetables, Free Vegetables) initiative, aimed at providing fresh seasonal vegetables free of cost to deserving and low-income families.

The AC inspected the land earmarked for the project, reviewed site preparation, and assessed arrangements for the cultivation of seasonal vegetables.

She directed the concerned officials to ensure the optimum utilization of government land and expedite the cultivation process so that quality produce could be made available to underprivileged households at the earliest.

Maria said the initiative reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to public welfare, food security, mitigating the impact of inflation, and the productive use of state-owned land for the benefit of vulnerable segments of society.

She instructed the relevant departments to ensure the project progresses according to the prescribed timeline and to make comprehensive arrangements for the timely cultivation, maintenance, harvesting and transparent distribution of vegetables, ensuring that the benefits of the welfare programme reach the maximum number of deserving families.

Sukkur: The Begum Nusrat Bhutto Women University (BNBWU) Sukkur organized an awareness session on ‘Career Opportunities for Women in the Pakistan Air Force’ at the Event Hall, Admin Block here on Saturday.

The session was held on the directives of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Tehmina Nangraj as part of the university’s efforts to provide career guidance, professional exposure and opportunities for national service to its students.

Squadron Leader M. Shabeeb Durrani, Officer Commanding, PAF Information and Selection Centre Sukkur, conducted the session along with his team including Assistant Abdul Rafique, Corporal Technician Ikhtisham, Corporal Technician Muhammad Umar and Corporal Technician Jawad.

The speakers briefed students on career pathways in the PAF, eligibility criteria, recruitment procedures, professional training and the growing role of women in the Air Force.

The Vice Chancellor said the initiative reflects BNBWU’s commitment to empowering female students with informed career choices and leadership opportunities to serve the nation with honour and courage. A large number of students and faculty members attended the session.

Peshawar: Director General Rescue 1122 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shah Fahad Sunday conducted an inspection of several flood-affected districts across the province to review performance of both permanent and temporary water rescue points.

He visited Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Kohat and Hangu water rescue points and reviewed performance of rescue staff.

Speaking at event, he said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government remains committed to providing timely, and quality emergency services to public. He said provincial government was actively expanding Rescue 1122’s capacity, resources, water rescue capabilities, and inter-agency coordination.

Commending the staff for their professional dedication, Shah Fahad directed all teams to maintain a high state of alert throughout monsoon season, enhance surveillance in sensitive areas, and ensure a rapid response to any emergency.

Mirpur (ajk): Extensive security arrangements have been devised in Mirpur district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to ensure the peaceful, transparent and fair conduct of polling to the scheduled first phase of AJK elections in Mirpur division on Monday, police said.

Talking to media here on Sunday, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mirpur Khurram Iqbal said a comprehensive and foolproof security plan had been put in place to maintain law and order and provide a secure environment for voters throughout the polling process.

He said more than 4, 800 security personnel would be deployed on election duty, including contingents from the Punjab Police, Frontier Corps (FC), Islamabad Police and the local police. He added that close coordination had been established among all security agencies to effectively respond to any untoward incident during polling.

The SSP said a three-pronged security strategy had been devised for all polling stations. The Polling stations have been categorised as highly sensitive, sensitive and normal, with personnel and resources allocated according to the security requirements of each location.

He further said that 56 security sectors had been established across the district, each placed under the supervision of the respective Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs). An effective monitoring and rapid response mechanism would remain operational in every sector to deal promptly with any emergency.

Khurram Iqbal said a separate contingency plan had been prepared for the second response force, while a third-layer security plan had also been implemented under the supervision of zonal commanders. He said all relevant institutions would remain in constant communication to ensure an immediate response to any potential security threat.

The SSP reaffirmed that the district administration and all law enforcement agencies were committed to ensuring that the electoral process remained peaceful, transparent and impartial.

He warned that no leniency would be shown towards anyone attempting to disturb public order or violate the election code of conduct. Strict implementation of the Election Commission’s directives would be ensured, and legal action would be taken without discrimination against all violators.

Appealing to citizens, candidates, political parties and their supporters, the SSP urged all stakeholders to strictly observe the election code of conduct, cooperate with law enforcement agencies and contribute towards maintaining a peaceful atmosphere to ensure the successful completion of the divisional elections.
