Islamabad: Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi on Monday paid glowing tribute to Pakistan’s first recipient of the Nishan-e-Haider, Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed, on his 78th martyrdom anniversary, terming his unparalleled courage, bravery and sacrifice as a priceless asset to the nation’s history.

In a statement, the minister said Sarwar Shaheed laid down his life in the defence of the motherland, setting an everlasting example of gallantry, selflessness and devotion to duty for future generations.

He said the martyrs of Pakistan are the true guardians of the country, adding that the entire nation would always remember their supreme sacrifices with honour, respect and pride.

Abbasi said the sacrifices of the country’s martyrs form the bedrock of Pakistan’s freedom, sovereignty and national security.

He said that the nation salutes every martyr who sacrificed his life for the protection of the homeland. The minister said Sarwar Shaheed’s spirit of sacrifice, unmatched bravery and unwavering loyalty to the country would continue to inspire future generations.

“We are indebted to our martyrs whose sacrifices have ensured the safety and dignity of our nation. They are our everlasting pride and national asset, ” he said. Paying tribute to Sarwar Shaheed and all the martyrs of Pakistan, Abbasi said their eternal sacrifices would always remain a source of courage, strength and unity for the nation.

Islamabad: Speaker of National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has said that if hepatitis is left undiagnosed or inadequately treated, it can pose a grave threat to human life.

He said that ensuring effective prevention, early diagnosis, access to quality treatment, and raising public awareness are among the government’s foremost public health priorities.

He expressed these views in his message on the occasion of World Hepatitis Day, observed globally on July 28 each year.

Ayaz Sadiq said that the observance of World Hepatitis Day aims to promote awareness about hepatitis and underscore the importance of early diagnosis and timely treatment.

He said that the spread of hepatitis can be effectively controlled by adopting preventive measures, promoting safe medical practices, expanding screening programmes, and ensuring timely access to treatment.

Ayaz Sadiq commended Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif for launching “Prime Minister’s National Programme for the Elimination of Hepatitis C”, describing it as a timely and commendable initiative.

He said the programme reflects the government’s commitment to make Pakistan free of Hepatitis C by 2030.

He expressed confidence that, under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, the government’s effective efforts would lead to significant progress towards eliminating hepatitis.

Ayaz Sadiq also appreciated the government’s initiatives, including Hepatitis B vaccination for newborns, nationwide public awareness campaigns, and awareness programmes conducted through educational institutions and the media. He said that Basic Health Units (BHUs) and Rural Health Centres (RHCs) are also playing a vital role in raising public awareness and encouraging immunisation.

Ayaz Sadiq reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to strengthening the country’s public health system, preventing diseases, promoting preventive healthcare, and enacting effective legislation to ensure the provision of quality healthcare services to the people.

He stressed the need for the federal and provincial governments, healthcare professionals, civil society, the media, and educational institutions to work collectively to enhance public awareness about hepatitis and adopt a coordinated strategy for its elimination.

In his message, Deputy Speaker National Assembly Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah said that public awareness, early diagnosis, and equitable access to treatment are essential for preventing hepatitis.

He urged every individual to adopt preventive measures, undergo regular medical check-ups, and follow safe medical practices.

He expressed confidence that through the collective efforts of the government, healthcare professionals, and all segments of society, Pakistan can achieve its national goal of becoming free from hepatitis.

Islamabad: Dar-ul-Madina International University (DMIU) is set to organize the ‘Poster Presentation and Innovation Gala 2026’ on Tuesday, 28 July, at the university’s Seminar Hall, offering students multiple opportunities to demonstrate their skills.

The event aims to provide students with an effective platform to showcase their research activities, innovative projects, creative ideas, and poster presentations focused on practical solutions to real-world problems. Islamabad: Indus River System Authority (IRSA) on Monday released 360, 400 cusecs of water from various rim stations with an inflow of 477, 600 cusecs.

According to the data released by IRSA, the water level in the River Indus at Tarbela Dam stood at 1531. 11 feet, which was 129. 11 feet higher than the dead level of 1402. 00 feet. Water inflow and outflow in the dam were recorded as 262, 300 cusecs and 181, 300 cusecs, respectively.

The water level in the Jhelum River at Mangla Dam was 1189. 65 feet, which was 139. 65 feet higher than its dead level of 1, 050 feet. The inflow and outflow of water were recorded as 46, 200 cusecs and 10, 000 cusecs, respectively.

The release of water at Kalabagh, Taunsa, Guddu and Sukkur was recorded as 311, 200, 345, 800, 244, 900, and 114, 300 cusecs, respectively.

Similarly, from River Kabul, a total of 49, 600 cusecs of water was released at Nowshera, and 111, 800 cusecs were released from River Chenab at Marala.

Islamabad: The prices of gold witnessed a sharp increase in the local market on Monday, with the price of 24-karat gold per tola surging by Rs4, 000 to settle at Rs431, 736, according to rates issued by the All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association.

Similarly, the price of 10 grams of 24-karat gold increased by Rs3, 430 to Rs370, 144, whereas 10 grams of 22-karat gold rose by Rs3, 145 to Rs339, 311.

In the international market, the price of gold increased by $40 to $4, 093 per ounce, the association reported.

Meanwhile, the price of silver per tola increased by Rs100 to Rs6, 397, while the price of 10 grams of silver rose by Rs86 to Rs5, 484.

The price of silver in the international market also increased by $1. 00 to $59. 18 per ounce, the association added.
