Mirpur: Mirpur police have solved the blind murder of a Kashmir-origin British national, identified as Dilpazeer, who was allegedly killed in Nakka Kharrak, with his nephew Rizwan Jahangir arrested as the main suspect, police said on Tuesday. The suspect was allegedly involved in the murder of his paternal uncle following a domestic dispute.
Addressing a press briefing, SSP Mirpur Khurram Iqbal said police solved the case within three to four days by employing modern investigative techniques and collecting crucial evidence. He said CCTV footage obtained from different locations and geofencing technology helped investigators trace the movements of the suspect and reach the alleged killer.
The SSP said Rizwan Jahangir, a government employee, had allegedly confessed during preliminary interrogation to his involvement in the murder. Police also recovered and seized the weapon allegedly used in the crime, while further investigation was underway to establish all facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.
SSP Khurram Iqbal said he personally supervised the investigation, while City DSP Sikandar Azam, SHO City Police Station Amir Farooq and their teams played an active role in tracing the case. He appreciated the police personnel for successfully identifying and arresting the suspect within a short period through the use of CCTV footage, geofencing and other modern investigative resources. According to the district police chief, a family dispute appeared to be the primary motive behind the murder.
