Vehari: A meeting of the Cotton Crop Management Committee was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Khalid Javed Goraya, in which a detailed review of cotton cultivation and production was taken in the district.

The meeting was informed that 90 percent target of cotton cultivation has been achieved in Vehari district, while the first harvesting of cotton is underway and the production is coming up to 8 to 12 maunds per acre.

It was informed in the briefing that the harvesting of seasonal cotton will start at the end of August, however, due to the increase in the cultivation of maize and other crops on the cotton area, difficulties were faced in achieving the set target.

The DC directed that a comprehensive report be prepared by comparing the factors hindering the achievement of cotton targets with the data of the last three years.

The meeting was further informed that cotton prices are determined according to the international market, availability of fertilizers is satisfactory and no major pest attack has been reported on the crop so far.

The meeting was also informed that the field staff of the Agriculture Department has launched a vigorous awareness campaign among the farmers from the union council to the village level to promote cotton cultivation.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Saba Sahar, Deputy Director Agriculture (Extension) Rana Muhammad Arif and other concerned officers were also present on the occasion.

Sargodha: Regional Police Officer Muhammad Shahzad Asif Khan on Monday held an open court to address the public complaints. A large number of people attended the court. On the occasion, the RPO listened to the problems of people and issued on the spot orders to the officials concerned for their redressal. Shehzad Asif Khan stated that timely resolution of public complaints remained a top priority for the police. He added that all available resources were being utilized to make police stations more people-friendly.

Peshawar: PESCO announced Monday that heavy rains tripped over 200 electricity feeders in Peshawar, with power already restored to more than 100 as weather conditions improved.

According to a PESCO spokesperson, repair and restoration work began immediately after the rain subsided. More than 100 feeders have since been re-energised, while 98 feeders remain out of service due to weather-related faults.

The spokesperson said PESCO teams are working round the clock to rectify faults and restore electricity to the remaining affected feeders at the earliest.

Consumers have been requested to report power outages in their areas by calling the PESCO helpline at 118.

The spokesperson also apologised for the temporary inconvenience caused by the weather-related power disruptions.

Multan: Punjab Food Authority (PFA) unearthed an illegal rendering unit in Burewala for producing cooking oil and animal fat from animal offal and discarded one maund animal fat and loose cooking oil. A food safety team raided the facility in Marzi Pura, Burewala, where operators were found manufacturing loose cooking oil without the required licence or registration. According to PFA spokesperson, the substandard oil was intended for using in frying fast food, posing a serious risk to public health. During the operation, the team confiscated and destroyed approximately 40 kilograms (one maund) of animal fat and loose cooking oil on the spot. The authority also got registered a case against the owner of illegal rendering unit at Model Town Police Station, Burewala.

Rawalpindi: Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Capt. (Retd.) Nadeem Nasir has assumed additional charge as Director General (DG) of the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) here on Monday.

Upon his arrival at the RDA headquarters, he was received by Additional Director General RDA Masood Ahmad Bukhari, Director Administration Nosheen Israr and other senior officers of the authority.

Chairing an introductory meeting with RDA officers, Capt. (Retd.) Nadeem directed them to discharge their responsibilities with honesty, professionalism, commitment and a strong sense of public service.

He emphasised strict adherence to government policies, rules and regulations, while ensuring transparency, merit, accountability and the timely disposal of official matters.

The newly appointed DG called for enhanced coordination among departments, expeditious implementation of ongoing development projects, intensified action against illegal housing schemes and unauthorised constructions, and improved service delivery for the facilitation of the public.

He said protection of public interest, planned urban development and effective enforcement of laws would remain among the Authority’s foremost priorities.

Nasir also directed officers to maintain close liaison with stakeholders, ensure prompt redressal of public complaints and adopt a proactive approach towards resolving administrative and development-related issues.

He warned that negligence, delay or indiscipline in official duties would not be tolerated and stressed that all officials must perform their responsibilities with dedication and integrity.

Reaffirming the Authority’s commitment to the vision of the Government of Punjab, he said the RDA would continue to pursue transparent governance, sustainable urban development, effective regulation and the provision of efficient, citizen-centric public services.

Multan: Newly posted Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Faisal Saleem assumed the charge of his office here on Monday and chaired a meeting to review the performance of district departments. During the meeting, the deputy commissioner received detailed briefings on ongoing development projects, the city’s beautification initiatives, and infrastructure schemes. The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Hafiz Muhammad Mudassar Nawaz, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Finance) Mohsin Nisar and other senior district officials.
