Attock : The Crime Control Department (CCD) has called for stronger cooperation from the business community and the legal fraternity to help combat crime across Punjab, saying public support is essential to the success of the province-wide anti-crime campaign launched on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The appeal was made by Regional Officer CCD Rawalpindi Range, SSP Hassan Jahangir Wattoo on Sunday, during a joint meeting at the District Officer CCD office in Attock.

Addressing representatives of traders, lawyers and local officials, Wattoo said the CCD, under the leadership of the Inspector General of Punjab Police, was committed to eliminating crime through impartial enforcement of the law. Stressing that justice must be delivered strictly on merit, he said no individual was above the law and warned that criminal elements would face legal action regardless of their influence. He also acknowledged weaknesses in the country’s justice system but said law enforcement agencies would not bow to pressure from vested interests.

The meeting was attended by office-bearers of the District Bar Association, Sarafa Association, City Traders Union, Attock Press Club, and senior CCD officials. Participants urged the district administration to consult the business community before launching development and construction projects in Attock City to minimise disruptions and ensure smoother implementation of public works.

The session also featured discussions on issues of mutual interest aimed at improving coordination between law enforcement agencies and stakeholders. Concluding the meeting, Wattoo thanked participants for their engagement, saying such interactions help strengthen trust, enhance cooperation and build closer ties between government departments, the business community and the legal fraternity in the collective effort to create a safer society.

Chiniot: Authorities in Chiniot have finalized plans to launch a large-scale plantation drive along the newly constructed Chiniot-Faisalabad one-way road, with Deputy Commissioner Ayesha Rizwan directing officials to prioritise environmentally friendly and shade-giving trees to create a greener travel corridor. The directives were issued during a meeting attended by senior officials from the district administration, Forest Department, Axis Highway, Municipal Committee and other relevant departments on Sunday.

The meeting reviewed progress and planning for tree plantation along both sides of the highway and the central green belt. Deputy Commissioner Rizwan described plantation as an integral part of the road development project and instructed departments to prepare a comprehensive implementation plan, ensuring the timely planting, maintenance and protection of trees.

She emphasised that suitable species should be selected to provide shade, enhance the area’s natural beauty and promote environmental sustainability. Officials were also instructed to work in close coordination to ensure the successful execution of the project and maintain the plantations after completion.

Rizwan said the initiative reflects the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to integrate eco-friendly measures into infrastructure development. She added that the project aims to provide residents with improved transport facilities while creating a cleaner, greener and more pleasant environment.

Sukkur: Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) in collaboration with Alkhidmat Foundation District Khairpur on Sunday held the orientation session of the Alkhidmat Summer Internship Program 2026 at the Student Societies Centre.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Yousuf Khushk was lauded for supporting initiatives promoting volunteerism and student engagement, said Dr Ali Raza Lashari, Coordinator, Student Societies Centre.

He added that such programs help students become responsible citizens and future leaders while building leadership, teamwork and empathy.

Asad Ali Mugheri gave an overview of the internship program, while Asif Hussain Siddiqui, Director Education Alkhidmat Foundation Sindh Region, highlighted volunteer opportunities in humanitarian and social welfare initiatives.

It was announced that 32 SALU students were awarded scholarships under Alkhidmat’s educational support initiative. A total of 146 students have been selected for the 2026 internship program, including 50 from SALU, who will gain practical experience and community service exposure.

Engr. Muhammad Aadil Arain, Vice President Alkhidmat Foundation District Khairpur, welcomed the participants. The session was attended by Shoaib Iqbal Shaheen, President Alkhidmat District Khairpur, and regional officials.

The orientation concluded with a Q and A session and dua. The event was coordinated with support from the Prime Minister’s Youth Development Council (PMYDC) volunteer team at SALU.

Multan: Police released their performance report for June 2026, announcing the arrest of 14 members belonging to five criminal gangs and recovery of over Rs7.28 million worth of property.

According to details, police recovered nine motorcycles, one car, two tolas of gold jewellery, mobile phones and livestock during the operations and handed them over to their rightful owners. In three police encounters, two dacoits were killed and one was arrested.

The DPO Dera Ghazi Khan said operations against criminals in June brought down the crime graph and led to record recoveries of over Rs7.28 million. During the month, police also arrested 317 proclaimed offenders wanted in serious cases and 24 court absconders.

In a separate crackdown against narcotics, 52 cases were registered and 72.172 grams of hashish, 9.8 kilograms of ice and 227 litres of liquor were recovered, with liquor sellers arrested. Police also registered 86 cases in a crackdown against illegal weapons, recovering six Kalashnikovs, three guns, 74 pistols and 266 rounds of ammunition, along with arrests of the accused.

The DPO said the operations against criminals and anti-social elements across the district were being carried out in line with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s “Mahfooz Punjab” vision, adding that protecting the life and property of citizens was the police’s foremost duty and priority, and all possible measures were being taken to that end.

The DPO appealed to citizens to share information regarding tenants, suspicious persons, drug peddlers, those involved in sexual abuse of women and children, usurers, thieves, dacoits and land grabbers with police to help establish peace and rule of law in Dera Ghazi Khan district.

Faisalabad: University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) on Sunday conducted first entry test for

the undergraduate degree admissions in which total 12,678 candidates appeared across 13 test enters.

On the directives of UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Zulfiqar Ali, foolproof arrangements were ensured for the candidates and their parents. According to Director Admission UAF Dr Muhammad Muzammil Jahangir, test centers were established in 13 cities including Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Lahore, Gujranwala, Layyah, Depalpur (Okara), Narowal, Rawalpindi, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, and Burewala. Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali along with other officials visited the different centers in Faisalabad and inspected the arrangement.

UAF spokesman said that the candidates who could not apply for first entrance test were encouraged to get them registered for second entrance test. The online registration for the second entrance test would be held from July 08 to July 24 and the test would be held on August 02. Hyderabad: Candidates Mahnoor Soomro, Nasir Hussain Wadho and Jai Pal Malhi jointly topped the MPhil pre-entry test, while Iman Haider and Abrar Ahmed Khan shared first position in the PhD test as the University of Sindh announced the results of its Spring 2026 admissions entry examinations.

The results were announced by the Director, Sindh University Testing Centre, Dr Aftab Chandio and have been uploaded to the university’s official website. According to the results, a total of 362 candidates appeared in the MPhil pre-entry test for admission to 38 academic departments. Of them, 192 candidates secured the qualifying score of 50 marks or above.

In the MPhil category, Mahnoor Soomro, Nasir Hussain Wadho and Jai Pal Malhi, all from the Department of Zoology, jointly secured first position with 76 marks out of 100. Shahid Noor Tunio of the Department of Commerce stood second with 75 marks, while Shamil Baig of the Department of Development Studies claimed third position with 74 marks.

For admissions to 33 PhD programmes, 127 candidates appeared in the pre-entry test, of whom 30 obtained the qualifying score of 60 marks or above.

In the PhD category, Iman Haider of the Department of Psychology and Abrar Ahmed Khan of the Department of Commerce jointly secured first position with 79 marks each. Mumtaz Hussain Solangi of the Department of Genetics stood second with 77 marks, while Zakir Hussain Malkani of the Department of Commerce and Razia Sultana Channa of the Department of Sociology shared third position with 76 marks each.

Meanwhile, on the special directives of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri (TI), candidates who had missed the MPhil and PhD entry test held on May 3, 2026, were also provided an opportunity to appear in a special test.
