Multan: An elderly man was killed while three others sustained serious injuries after a commuters van collided with a truck on Bahawalpur road near Chowk No. 14 in Multan on Sunday. According to Rescue 1122 officials, the accident occurred when the rashly driven van, carrying passengers, rammed into a truck while taking a U-turn. The deceased was identified as Imam Bakhsh, 70, s/o Muhammad Ramzan, who suffered a fatal head injury and died on the spot. The injured were identified as Savera Bibi,18, Muhammad Zubair, 42, s/o Allah Bachaya and Intizar Ali, 43, s/o Muhammad Younis. On receiving emergency call, Rescue 1122 dispatched one motorbike ambulance and two ambulances to the scene. Rescue personnel provided first aid before shifting the injured to Nishtar hospital, Multan for further treatment. Police also reached the scene and completed the necessary legal formalities.

Rawalpindi: Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Farhan Aslam urged the motorcyclists to use helmets for their own safety.

In a statement, CTO said that motorcyclists must wear helmets to avoid fatal accidents.

He said, Traffic wardens had been directed to take strict action in accordance with the law against the violators.

He said wearing a helmet could save a driver’s life in case of any accident. “Sometimes it’s the only difference between life and death,” he added.

Farhan said all traffic issues could be resolved by observing traffic rules, which are for the safety and protection of the road users.

Muzaffargarh: An elderly Naat reciter was allegedly beaten to death after he tried to stop a dog fight in Moza Kachi Wali, within the jurisdiction of Shah Jamal police station,here on Sunday.

According to police sources,the incident occurred in Basti Anari Wala,where a dog fight was underway.

During the fight,the dogs entered the house of Hafiz Ghulam Hussain Ran.

When he threw stones to drive the dogs away,the men organizing the dog fight allegedly became enraged.

The suspects reportedly dragged Hafiz Ghulam Hussain Ran while he was offering prayers and subjected him to severe torture.

Local residents intervened and rescued him before informing Rescue 1122.

Rescuers provided first aid to the injured man and shifted him to hospital,where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police reached the scene,shifted the body to hospital for legal formalities and registered proceedings.

The suspects fled the scene and efforts were underway to arrest them,police said.

Quetta: Aide to the Chief Minister Balochistan on Political and Media Affairs Shahid Rind has said that the provincial government fully believes in free, responsible, and professional journalism, and welcomes constructive input from all stakeholders regarding the proposed media policy.

Responding to the statement of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE), Shahid Rind emphasized that the government seeks dialogue, not confrontation, with representative media bodies. He extended a formal invitation to CPNE leadership to visit Quetta, hold detailed consultations with the government, and present their recommendations so that the new media policy can be made more balanced, transparent, and practical.

He clarified that the government’s objective is not to discriminate against any sector of the media but to establish a framework aligned with modern requirements, merit, and transparency. He assured that if any aspect of the policy requires improvement during consultations, the government will seriously consider positive suggestions.

Shahid Rind reiterated that Chief Minister Balochistan’s clear stance is to ensure equal opportunities for all media institutions and to build a transparent, merit-based system. He added that constructive proposals will be welcomed with openness to strengthen the media landscape of the province.

Faisalabad: Faisalabad Police and Faryad Vocational Training Institute have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide substantial fee concessions and market-oriented vocational education to the children of police martyrs, serving officials and retired employees.

A police spokesman said that the agreement was signed by Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Imran Ahmed Malik on behalf of Faisalabad Police and Chief Executive Officer of Faryad Vocational Training Institute Asma Faryad during a ceremony held in Faisalabad.

Under the agreement, children of police martyrs would receive 100 percent fee waiver while children of serving and retired police employees would be entitled to 50 percent concession. The concession would apply to both admission and monthly tuition fees, he added.

He said that the institute would offer professional training in a range of employable skills including beautician courses, tailoring, computer education and other vocational disciplines designed to improve employment prospects and promote self-reliance among the beneficiaries.

Speaking on the occasion, SSP Operations Imran Malik said that the initiative reflected commitment of Faisalabad Police to the welfare of police employees and families of martyrs who had rendered invaluable sacrifices in the line of duty.

He said that equipping the children of police personnel with modern vocational skills would enable them to secure sustainable employment opportunities and contribute positively to the society.

SSP Operations emphasized that the welfare of serving personnel, retired employees and the families of police martyrs remained a top priority of the department.

He said that every possible resource was being utilized to promote the education, professional development and overall well-being of their children.

The collaboration is expected to create new educational and career opportunities for the children of police families while strengthening ongoing welfare measures undertaken by Faisalabad Police for its workforce and the families of fallen personnel, he added.

Peshawar: At least three young girls were killed and four other family members injured after a suspected quadcopter-dropped explosive struck a house in Nargassai (Sui Khela) area of Azam Warsak tehsil in Lower South Waziristan late Saturday night, according to police.

Police on Sunday said the house belonged to local resident Muhammad Gul, also known as Bagal of Dinwar sub-clan of the Wazir tribe.

The explosion caused extensive damage to the house, destroyed household belongings, and killed eight goats.

The deceased were identified as 15-year-old Meenka Bibi, 9-year-old Gulnaza Bibi and 6-year-old Bashrobana.

The injured were identified as Mazla Bibi, 13-year-old Khatir, 4-year-old Naqeeb and 22-year-old Gul Zadeen. They were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana where hospital officials said they received immediate medical treatment and are out of danger.

Police and relevant security authorities have launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident and identify those responsible. The cause of the explosion has not yet been officially confirmed.
