Multan: A woman was killed while her son sustained injuries after a speeding car hit their motorcycle near Adda Baseera on Bahawalpur Road in Basti Malook on Saturday,Rescue 1122 officials said.

According to Rescue 1122, the victims were crossing the road on a motorcycle when a speeding vehicle struck them.

As a result,Kulsoom Akhtar(45) died on the spot while her son Muhammad Aman(19) sustained injuries.

Rescue officials said an ambulance was immediately dispatched after receiving the emergency call.

The rescue team provided first aid to the injured and shifted him to Laeeque Rafique Hospital for further treatment.

Police reached the scene,completed legal formalities and handed over the body to the family.

Faisalabad: Lundianwala police have traced a blind murder and arrested the accused after one year.

Police spokesman said here on Monday that the victim Muhammad Parvez was fatally shot by the accused Umar Hayat during a robbery incident last year. The case had remained unresolved despite sustained efforts by investigators.

However, following a fresh investigation, Station House Officer (SHO) Lundianwala police station Adil Mustafa employed modern investigative techniques, technological support and professional expertise to trace the suspect and successfully arrest him.

The accused was taken into custody after collecting credible evidence linking him to the murder while further investigation was underway, he added.

Sargodha: The anti-power theft campaign continued across the district as task force teams of the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) detected six electricity theft cases and initiated legal proceedings against the accused on Saturday.

According to official data,FIRs have been recommended in all six cases.

During the operation,the accused consumers were charged with 9,936 detection units amounting to Rs.2,33,767,officials said.

FESCO officials urged the public to cooperate with authorities and report incidents of electricity theft to help reduce line losses and strengthen the power distribution system.

Multan: Commissioner Multan Division Aamir Kareem Khan conducted inspection of the ongoing restoration and development work at the historic Fort Qasim Bagh (Walled City).

During the visit, the commissioner reviewed progress on key components of the project, including the Dum Dumma, Nigar Khana, Municipal Library, Library Caf©, retaining wall, fortification wall, landscaping works and other heritage restoration initiatives. Officials briefed him on the progress of each scheme and their respective completion timelines.

Addressing the officials, Aamir Kareem Khan, said the practical steps were being taken to make the Fort Qasim a tourist and cultural center.

He announced that the Municipal Library and Caf© will become operational on July 15, while the Langar Khana and Craft Bazaar will be opened before the annual Urs of Hazrat Shah Rukn-e-Alam (RA). He also directed authorities to ensure timely arrangements, including portable washrooms and other public facilities, for pilgrims.

The commissioner emphasized that no compromise would be made on construction quality and instructed that all heritage structures be illuminated to enhance their visual appeal during the night. He directed all departments to complete projects according to the scheduled timelines. He also reviewed land acquisition matters related to the proposed padel courts and the construction of a new access road.

According to the project briefing, landscaping of Qasim Garden and the public services area was in progress in phases, while the area between the shrines of Hazrat Shah Rukn-e-Alam (RA) and Hazrat Bahauddin Zakariya (RA) was expected to be completed by July 15, 2026. The remaining landscaping work was scheduled for completion by September 2026.

Officials further informed the commissioner that three towers of the new fortification wall and retaining wall cladding will be completed by August 10, 2026, while the remaining structures will be constructed after completion of the land acquisition process. Infrastructure development and pedestrian pathways are expected to be completed by December 2026.

The Food Street, external landscaping and retaining wall will also be completed by August 10, with a model shop becoming operational the same day and the remaining outlets scheduled for completion by September 2026. Electrical works, architectural illumination and the underground HT/LT power distribution system along Hussain Agahi Road are expected to be completed by December 2026.

The briefing added that restoration of the Dum Dumma Museum, Top Roof Caf© and overhead water tank will be completed by August 10, while the Langar Khana, Auqaf Office, Municipal Library and Nigar Khana will be handed over by July 15. Finishing work on the central courtyard is expected to conclude by September 2026.

Officials also informed the commissioner that work on the soil retention structure and retaining wall is underway and will be completed by December 2026. Three shuttle vehicles have already been procured for visitors to Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh, while three more are expected from Lahore. The shuttle service is scheduled to begin on August 10, 2026.

Commissioner Aamir Kareem Khan directed all concerned departments to maintain close coordination so that the historical identity of Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh could be protected and to make it better tourist place.

Sargodha: Chairman Zakat and Ushr Council Punjab MPA Munawar Ghaus Khan on Saturday held an open court at the Municipal Committee Sillanwali to listen to public grievances. During the open court, a large number of residents attended and presented various civic and developmental issues. He listened to complaints and concerns of the participants and issued on-the-spot directions to the relevant departments for their prompt resolution. Speaking on the occasion, he said that resolving public issues and ensuring the provision of basic facilities to people remained a top priority of the government. He emphasized that open courts served as an effective platform to strengthen public engagement and facilitate timely redressal of citizens’ problems.

Bahawalpur: Around 31 BS programme of Department of Zoology, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur will do internship in the Directorate of General Wildlife and Parks, Punjab.

According to an official press release issued by the IUB here, in this regard, the Deputy Chief Wildlife Range Bahawalpur has issued a letter to the Additional Chief Wildlife Range South Zone. ‘Dean Faculty of Chemical and Biological Sciences Professor Dr. Muhammad Saleem has said that under the guidelines of the Higher Education Commission and the guidance of the Vice Chancellor of Islamia University of Bahawalpur Professor Dr. Muhammad Kamran, steps are being taken to provide practical training to the students along with classrooms,’ it said.
