Peshawar: Secretary Auqaf, Hajj, Religious and Minority Affairs, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Atta-ur-Rehman chaired a performance review meeting on Saturday to assess security situation of minority places of worship across the province.

The meeting aimed to establish more effective protection measures, was attended by DIG Security Sajjad Khan, SSP Security Sanaullah Khan, and relevant officials from Auqaf Department.

Secretary Atta-ur-Rehman directed department staff to equip these places of worship with modern security facilities, including CCTV cameras, walk-through gates, metal detectors, searchlights, and fire safety equipment.

He also emphasized importance of reinforcing mutual cooperation and effective coordination between police and Auqaf Department. The goal of these enhanced measures was to provide a safe, peaceful environment for minority communities during their worship.

He said that KP government was committed to taking every possible step to protect life, property, and religious freedom of all its citizens, with a special focus on minority communities.

Kohat: A person was injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire in Gumbat Bazaar in Kohat on Saturday, according to initial reports.

Authorities said the victim was targeted by unknown assailants, who fled the scene after the shooting. The injured person was shifted for medical treatment, while police launched an investigation into the incident.

Officials have not yet disclosed the identity of the victim or the possible motive behind the attack. Police are collecting evidence and working to trace those involved.

Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.

Hyderabad: The written test for the recruitment of Lecturers (BPS-17) at Government College Hyderabad, a constituent college of Government College University Hyderabad, was held on Saturday, July 4, 2026, in a peaceful and well-organised manner.

A total of 1,500 candidates appeared in the test for various disciplines, including English, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Sindhi, Urdu, Pakistan Studies and Islamic Studies.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Moazzam Ali Khan said the recruitment process was being conducted transparently and strictly on merit in accordance with the prescribed policy. He appreciated the organising teams for ensuring the smooth conduct of the examination.

Director HR Mr. Najamuddin Sohu said the written test was conducted in accordance with the university’s recruitment policy to ensure transparency and fairness. He said the results would be uploaded on the university’s official website soon.

Nawabshah: One dangerous robber was arrested in Injured condition as a result of an encounter within the limits of Khadhar Police Station, and weapons were recovered from his possession.

According to the police spokesperson, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Khadhar Police Station, along with his team, carried out a major operation against criminals and arrested a dangerous robber in an injured condition after a police encounter. Illegal weapons were also recovered from the possession of the suspect, while his three accomplices managed to escape.

According to details, the SHO Khadhar and his police team were on routine patrol when they encountered suspicious individuals. When the police signaled them to stop, the suspects, fearing arrest, opened indiscriminate fire on police.

The police retaliated in self-defense with courage and professionalism, resulting in the arrest of one robber in injured condition, while his accomplices fled the scene while firing.

A search operation is ongoing in the area to apprehend the fleeing suspects. The injured robber has been identified as Jabbar, son of Pathan, alias Khan Khasakhaili. He was immediately shifted to the relevant hospital for medical treatment.

Initial investigation revealed that the arrested suspect has been involved in various incidents of theft, robbery, and other serious crimes in different parts of the city.

Further criminal record of the injured suspect is being verified from other districts. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shaheed Benazirabad, Sameer Noor Channa, appreciated the bravery, professionalism, and courage displayed by the SHO Khadhar and his entire team. He said that operations against criminal elements would continue without discrimination until the complete eradication of crime from the district.

Peshawar: Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi here Saturday chaired a high level meeting to review the law and order situation, governance, service delivery, development programs and progress on ongoing development projects in Malakand Division.

Senior officials from relevant government departments attended the meeting and briefed the CM about areas of performance and progress being made so far.

Chairing the meeting, CM directed police authorities to expedite investigations into recent attacks on parliamentarians in Malakand Division and submit a comprehensive report at the earliest.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to public safety, he stated that protecting the lives and property of citizens is among top priorities of provincial government.

He said KP Police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) are being further strengthened with modern weapons, advanced technology, equipment and other essential resources to enhance counterterrorism capabilities.

The CM also instructed authorities to adopt a zero tolerance policy against terrorism, extremism and narcotics throughout Malakand Division and emphasized that coordinated, decisive and practical action should be taken against criminals and anti-social elements.

During the meeting, directions were issued to ensure the timely release of full funding for the children hospital and avoid delays in public welfare projects.

To address public needs during the ongoing heatwave, he ordered the establishment of labour shelters across various districts of Malakand Division and directed officials to ensure the availability of drinking water and electric fans at public places.

Highlighting the importance of efficient governance, the CM directed departments to significantly improve service delivery and make public satisfaction the primary benchmark for institutional performance. He further directed officials to continue holding regular open public forums to address citizens’ grievances promptly.

KP CM was informed the meeting that work is currently underway on 737 development schemes across Malakand Division while 99 percent of the allocated development funds for the current fiscal year have already been utilized.

The meeting was further informed that fourteen Police Facilitation Centers are providing services to the public while three additional centers are under construction to improve access to police services.

Bahawalnagar: Two sanitation workers died and a third was critically injured after being exposed to toxic gases while cleaning a manhole in Mahboob Colony of Chishtian tehsil on Saturday, officials said.

According to official sources, the workers were carrying out routine sewer cleaning when they descended into the manhole and were overcome by poisonous gases that had accumulated inside. Two workers died of suffocation at the scene, while a third was rescued and shifted to hospital in critical condition for treatment.

The deceased were identified as 35-year-old Shafique and 45-year-old Irfan Masih. Rescue teams responded to the incident and recovered the victims from the manhole before launching further relief operations.

Following the incident, Deputy Commissioner Zulfiqar Ahmad Bhon ordered a formal inquiry and directed the Assistant Commissioner of Chishtian to conduct a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. The sanitation supervisor concerned was suspended over alleged negligence pending the outcome of the inquiry, while officials said further action would be taken in accordance with the investigation’s findings.
